Good Morning NLG Board,

I hope that all is well and that you are enjoying your semester!

I am wondering if you would be able to pass along information about an event that I planned through WLI to NLG? It is about access to menstrual products and the work that a few amazing Cardozo Alumnae are doing. I included some more information below.

Thanks so much!

Emily

Periods Gone Public: Discussion Forum
Monday, March 26
4:00 PM, Room 1008
Refreshments Will Be Served

On Monday, two Cardozo Alumnae, Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-6), sponsor of the Menstrual Equity for All Act of 2017 (H.R. 972), and the Brennan Center for Justice’s Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, author of Periods Gone Public, are coming to Cardozo for a conversation about their fight for menstrual equity.

They have both been working to ensu
re that the inability to afford or manage menstruation does not hold anyone back from educational opportunities or full societal participation.

One of the topics of conversation will be Congresswoman Grace Meng
's efforts
that ultimately
led to the U.S. Department of Justice issuing a guidance requiring that tampons and pads be freely provided in all federal prisons.

The Department of Justice took this action after
 Congresswoman Meng

signed
 on to a letter
describing
the importance of inmates having access to these products. The conversation will focus on the different ways that law can be used to take action and the processes involved in these various methods.

See the attached poster for more information!
