Subject: VICTORY last night
To: Cardozo MLSA <Cardo...@gmail.com>

Dear all,

Last night, the SBA Senate voted overwhelming against bill 3-17! This means that the SBA will not be intruding into MLSA and the affinity groups' organizational structures or the way we meet.

THANK YOU!
We were really blown away by how many students (and even some alumni!) came out to support MLSA last night. We are so grateful to everyone who spoke last night, who made signs, who wrote to their senators, who signed the petition, who expressed their support for us online and in person, and those who showed support in so many other ways. We are deeply thankful and nothing would have been possible without all of your support.

Moving on
We want to also mention that now this is over, we must begin a process of healing.
MLSA is committed to promoting communication and understanding, and we don't believe in holding grudges or stereotyping all of SBA based on recent events. Here is an excerpt of our statement from last night:

Finally, we would be neglectful if we failed to mention the political climate in which this bill has arrived. This bill comes to us at a moment when minorities across the country are under attack. Muslims, Jews, people of color, queer and trans people, and immigrants have all been targeted by hate violence. Women’s rights are under attack. Trans rights are under attack. Immigrants’ rights are under attack. We believe that now solidarity is more important than ever. We have seen how much damage this proposed bill has already caused in our community here at Cardozo. We sincerely want to move forward with compassion and understanding. We believe in the power of communities that heal hurt, apologize, listen to each other and make things right. We believe in the revolutionary force of solidarity and love for each other. No matter what happens today, the three of us will continue to be allies to ANYONE at Cardozo who experiences marginalization and we will continue to believe in the transformative power of revolutionary love.

in solidarity,
