Next meeting... Friday 15th (tomorrow) in the Otley Arms, Trefforest, Pontypridd

The next meeting is the first one on a Friday and the first outside
Cardiff. I hope nobody gets put off by heading eight miles north of
the M4! The venue is The Otley Arms in Trefforest, an incredibly well-
known Free House with its own brewery. As I've mentioned before, my
sister-in-law is the landlady (but I get no perks or kickbacks beyond
babysitting and bottles of beer at Christmas).
With it being a Friday night it could be quite loud - if you can't
spot a gathering of geeks we may have retreated to the function room
upstairs for some peace. The stairs to get to it are beside the pool
table. If my son and I had been healthy over the past week I'd have
dropped in there to check it out (I've never had need to before).
We're unlikely to have Wi-Fi unless a contractual dispute has
miraculously been solved (it was supposed to have been done in
January...)
I've put together a quick map so you can see just how easy it is to
get to by road or rail:
If you're on the train, the university's normal disclaimer is DON'T
GET OFF AT TREFFOREST ESTATE. For reasons unknown, Trefforest
Industrial Estate is around three miles away from the village of
Trefforest itself. The train doesn't always stop there, but if it
does, wait for the next stop. If you're driving, you'll find that all
the on-street parking restrictions will have finished. It's not always
easy to park but if it comes down to it you can use the station car
park for free.
