7QP is an amateur radio contest held annually on the first Saturday in May over an 18-hour period commencing at 1300 UTC (7 AM MT).
The stations of the US 7th call area (Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) become "the pursued", and the rest of the US, Canada, and the world try to work as many in the 7th call area on as many bands/modes as possible
7QP.org provides rules, history, and exchange information.
The exchange from a single county is the USPS abbreviation for the state followed by a 3-letter abbreviation for the county; example, WYNAT. When a station is straddling a county line or two the counties are separated by “/”; example, WYGOS/PLA/LAR. When a station is straddling a state line, the exchange is like WYABC/UTXYZ
Ideally, stations outside the 7th area will be able to work at least one station in every county in the 7th area. WY has been challenged to provide contacts from every county. Hopefully this year will be more inclusive. 7QP.org has a page that stations use to post their planned operations. Posting a plan generally leads to DX stations searching for you. For example, I think I have worked OM2VL year after year.
Have fun, 73,
Bob R = N7WY, aka 7QP WY Captain
