Elmer knowledge regarding a Kenwood amp

Was wondering if anyone out there in the "CARC-Land" had any experience
with an older Kenwood TL-922A amplifier. I saw one for sale recently and
it looked like a pretty nice unit but I have no knowledge nor experience
with this vintage amp. Seems like a solid performer in its day but since
I'm pretty new to the hobby, I thought it would be worth asking around.

Thanks for any insights or thoughts about the amp.

Isn't this the same - or close to - what the County has up in the EOC?

They're fairly robust. Give it good power, a clean input - don't over drive it - into a matched antenna, dummy load (rated), or tuner for it's output - you should be fine. How close of a match you can get your antenna will say a lot about how well it works for you.

Nice amp! Wound't mind getting my own hands on one, some day

Thanks Tate. I'm just considering adding an amp to the shack. Have been shopping around and I'm unfamiliar with older equipment even though I'm old myself. Mostly I'm hoping to get the best bang-for-the-buck like anyone and therefore I'm getting info as I can for due diligence.

I won't be overdriving any amp as I would not be anywhere near using full legal limit. I'm thinking that a good reliable amp running putting out 500-700 W would be easy and reasonable.

Well, what with as much use as we've had over the years and as well as it's served in the EOC, that one would be a good pick in my book.

"Overdrive" is pushing input into an amp. They're really true GIGO machines, Garbage in - Garbage out. Best input, clean and proper, the more chance of a good, strong one come'n out
