to Carbon Dioxide Removal
Hi everyone, sharing an opportunity that may be of interest to this group.

Are you an academic researcher, non-profit, or innovator working on scalable climate solutions? Does your research focus on unlocking carbon removal at the gigaton scale or superpollutant abatement at the megaton scale? If so, apply for project funding by September 25, 2026.

The 2026 Google Carbon Removal and Superpollutant Elimination R&D Awards are officially open. Google is funding targeted research to tackle critical bottlenecks to scale scientific breakthroughs in both carbon removal and superpollutant abatement across 12 priority areas and one open call, including:
  • Generating evidence around the environmental and/or ecological impacts and co-benefits of OAE
  • Accelerating methane abatement in diffuse emission streams
  • Improving the resilience of mangrove restoration to sea-level rise
  • Optimizing the climate impact of carbon removal through tidal wetland restoration
  • Advancing next-generation CO2 capture systems for BECCS facilities
  • Unlocking underutilized biomass feedstocks to scale biochar
  • Developing monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for open-system landfill interventions
  • And more!
Read the full RFP and submit your proposal here: https://research.google/programs-and-events/2026-google-carbon-removal-and-superpollutant-elimination-rd-awards/

See LinkedIn for posts about this RFP from Ella Hughes, Technical Program Manager of Google's Carbon Removal Team, from Kate Brandt (Google's Chief Sustainability Officer), and from the official Google Research account.

Thanks,
Tessa
