I got a message from Kate at BentUp Cycles that Dana was looking
forward to my report of carbon fiber fastness. I have a road that I
have been riding for over 20 years and have until now been able to
spin out on the downhill. My diamond frame bike would achieve its max
speed in the very first part of the downhill, it is a Trek 2100 carbon
fiber main tubes with a carbon fiber fork. I can still ride it but I
had a back injury so I got a Lightning R-84 nine years ago. I could
never get the R84 to go as fast as my diamond frame bike in the upper
part of this downhill run. I could go about two to three miles an
hour faster in the lower section. Never did understand why. The
Carbent blows away tops speeds of both of those bikes in all sections
of the downhill. I have yet to spin out on the Carbent because I run
into curves in the road and have to let up. One of these days I'll
get it all spun out. The road is a five mile downhill at an average
of 4% grade. Plenty of time to get it up to speed.
The climbing ability of the Carbent is just something that is still
hard to believe. There is this uphill that has these mini-walls in
it. First time I road the Carbent on it when I came to the mini-wall
instead of downshifting I just picked up the RPMs and went right up
the mini-wall. It is just such an awesome feeling to have a bike
respond to the input like that. I would have never dreamed of
attacking a mini-wall like that on any other bike I have ridden.
I have a picture of my bike at this URL right before I went on my
first ride.
