I wonder if any or several riders have comitted as a carbent team for
RAAM 2010?
I will unlikely be a team member...unless the total body transplant is
successful. I have contributed a little to several teams over the
years, I would like to know if I should wait for this carbent team as
I won't likely be able to help all.
Anyone talking?

Mike,

We are talking and have a preliminary team set up.  However, it probably will be a Bent Up Cycles team rather than a Carbent team.  I would love to get all of the riders on Carbents, though...

Just when I'd gotten my hopes up of riding with you and da guys for a
full week! If you're going to do it though, it really should be full
Carbent. After all, the B boys will have a team of four, so......

Of course, let em ride a carbent - that should be all the incentive
they need.

Dana,

With Willie's posts we all know about Bent Up Cycles 4-man RAAM team.  Can you tell us more about it?

Obviously you and Willie will be riding carbents.  Who are the other team members?  What bikes will you all be riding?
I am curious :)

Ah,

So the composition is
Dana (here he is at PIR last year )
JV
Keith Kohan (picture if I am right here)
Willie (easy to find pictures of for yourself :), I have yet to meet him).

I am assuming Keith Kohan as that is the only endurance recumbent rider I know from Oregon.  It sounds like a great team.  I know we will all eagerly follow the progress.

That is a picture of Keith.  He is ridiculously strong!  JV ain't too bad either.  Willie, Mr. Zero Body Fat, should be great in the mountains (I just hope he doesn't blow away in the wind).  Me, I am the rock, the anchor of the team...with the most ballast, I have volunteered to do all of the descents.  Hey, you gotta use your strengths were you got 'em!

Dana,

This is great news.  I have met and ridden with 2 of your 4 man team at HPC PIR 2009.  There is no other team for me to follow this year, you guys are my favorite for sure.

I remember trying to hold on to Keith's wheel during the Road Race (at PIR) last year, he and Alex blew by me like I was standing still.  I managed to latch onto Alex's wheel for 1/2 a lap until we turned into the headwind.  Keith is very strong.  This is very exciting, best of luck to you all.

BTW, JV sold me those wheels with the PowerTap hub, HR band and
computer. Now I'm ready for training! :)

Look for more detailed information about Team Bent Up Cycles on the
RAAM website SOON (hint, hint).

Here's what I've been able to glean from assembling (or not) their
biographical information for the RAAM website.

Keith is a legitimate animal - one of the "rock stars" of Team RAO
Speedwagon - incidentally this may have been the FIRST (but not the
LAST) time a recumbent 4-man team won overall, and even the old (dare
I say EASY) RAO course had a lot more feet of climbing per mile than
RAAM.

Willie will be great so long as someone reminds him to put on
sunscreen.., got that, Lee?

Dana - feed him, keep his bike clean, and lie to him about his power
meter calibration being just a little wonky at altitude...check.

JV - UFO, but good genes help.

Not to worry, I'll bring a case of Bullfrog! I know Dana has issue
with me going topless, but in the heat of the summer, I think we all
may get down to this. From a thermodynamics standpoint, it really
does work better than any hi-tech clothing.

RAAM 2010

Carbent Bacchetta Bent up RAAM team looks like a great group. It is
fun to know such great athletes.

I actually beat Keith on trikes in the drag race in 2003at PIR!...,
but that was some kind of fluke as I am not in the same class as he
and Alex. I hung on their wheel when they were racing as a Hase
tandem that year n the ten mile road race. Fun to watch Alex grow.

JV and I have been at Sebring together a few times. I think he
retired with more miles in six hours than I could manage in twelve one
year. He even moved my car into the pit area for me during my first
24h effort. He has always been incredibly helpful to me and the
Bacchetta team. One of the true bicycle racers riding bents. He has
been a great representative of recumbent cycling around the country.

Dana is my west coast bike shop guy...I bought stuff from his
garage...before the store. Everytime I get out to his shop it has
doubled in size. I expect there will be billboards the next time to
direct me. I walked to his shop from the train station the last time
I was there. I was stuck in the shop for a few unexpected hours
waiting for my daughter...what torture leaving a recumbent rider in a
candy store. I am fortunate to be riding Sea Dragon 007. I felt
really lucky that he brought lots of toys for us to play with in
Portland in May 2009 at HPC PIR. He deserves to be riding after
sponsoring and helping a bent teams and riders in previous events and
years.

I do want Willie to release his magnetic field stimulator to ease my
left hand turn pain. The Carbent with 404 wheels and I just don't
trip many left hand turn lights. I appreciated his assistance in
improving the durability of my magicshine light by recommending the
conformal material treatment of the electrical intersections. i have
enjoyed your ride tales.

I wish I had the time and ability to ride such an event...or even
drive with you all on this adventure.
I will contribute to the cause.

Are any of you going to be at Sebring next month?
I look forward to see your pre event schedule published. I hope you
have a great crew lined up.

This should be fun!
There are so many teams and individuals riding this year I think it
will be incredibly stimulating following and participating.

Mike, I'll be at Sebring again this year, and so will Sandy Earl. So
Team Carbent will have a good showing - just look for the pink
handlebar tape and rear bags!. I hope to break my own record from
last year and get as close to RAAM Qual as possible.

Greg,
See you there! I will be camping along the entry road for the sixth
year.
Cant wait to see the action. Good recumbent showing is again
expected.
I will be driving down Friday from Northeastern Florida. Pink tape
and tail bag. Yep, I think I will be able to pick you out of the
pack.
