Yesterday I saw a Carbent at an event I was riding . Paul Gagnon
bought his Karcher Carbent in 2005. It is the 20/700 with the
beautiful velokraft fork. Paul happened to be in my age group
together with Allan Duhm of Team Baccheta. Ah, relief, I will stil be
on the podium for another year. Paul had been training hard and was
in great shape for the event. He even sports a beard! I have no
beard and have a shape --not mistaken for great.
Allan Duhm is strong and yet to begin his RAAM JV directed training
program. He took firsts in our age group in both the five and ten k
time trial. Not even close.
Paul was strong and second in both the five and ten k. He passed me
and another rider (15second start gaps) and was coming up on a
third..
(Paul's Carbent had his idler strapped on with pipe clamps. He said
it had broken off several times and finally just pipe clamped the
idler on. (a single poweside idler with this version.))
Ah, the days when I was the only one in age group and events and by
default first are over.
Real athletes are on good bikes. Look out. I
still do the comfort demo.
