Interestingly, I have been doing a lot of cross-training on my
Kettweisel. A lot of my friends ride at a pretty consistent pace of
14-17 mph considering the terrain. On the Weisel this works me like a
dog to stay with them. One route in particular we have been riding is
36 miles with 2800 feet of climbing. On the Weisel there is no
cheating, no drafting,, no holding onto momentum, and hitting those
hills with 6-13% grades over and over has done wonders for my
strength. I rode 47 miles with them Sunday and rode about 10 miles
doing one-legged drills, alternating legs after 100 pedal strokes and
maintaining a 16-17 mph speed.
Anybody have any good tips on how I should prepare over the next 4
weeks before HOS?

Training on a Kettweisel... Be careful when you get on that Carbent. You will likely experience a sudden unexpected acceleration. I've been having some issues with this and I brought it to Dana's attention. Just like Toyota, he seems to be dragging his feet on fixing it. I credit him with not blaming the floor mats.
But seriously, 24-27mph on the flats are not difficult for long stretches. I thought for sure Dana had miscalibrated my speedometer. Not so! The mileage matches the map. Hmmm. This could become habit forming.

| Good point Tim, though I am not in your league I have found that when I get back on the Sea Dragon that 23-25 is doable on the flats. I added a 4 mile side trip on that ride last Sunday and kept the speed about 22 except for one short stretch. I'm looking forward to seeing how the cross-training helps for RAAM good luck with that Ward --- On Tue, 3/16/10, Timothy Woudenberg <woud...@yahoo.com> wrote: |
