I have been riding my Sea Dragon again after it made it back from the
factory.
A new idler plate placed atop the old. A new boom. New dropouts.

I do enjoy the solid ride of the one piece frame.

I had been using it as a nine speed following the last repair and just
kept it that way for now...Commuting in Florida and riding over
bridges doesnt really require a little ring. (though the nine speed
was previously based on a 46 up front. Right now I have 53/40 Q rings
up front...I can hand shift if needed.) I have the front derailler
and bar end and housing ready, just havent felt the need. Not weight
weenie, but, hey....

Florida Senior Games Jacksonville this weekend. My short race for the
year. 5k and 10k time trials. John Tanner from Bacchetta has set the
recumbent standard for the courses he has tried in the series. His
times on the state Championship course represent the second fastest
for 5k and third fastest 10k...over years and thousands of riders
challenging. I haven't been a threat to his times.

I have ridden 150-175 miles per week the couple months. Gradually
trying to get back into shape.

I would love to ride the Alaskan 1200 with Dana...but think an extra
ninty hours would have made it more fun.

Where are the Carbents?

I've been keeping my Carbent rolling down the road. It is coming up
on two years since I have bought it. I got to do some longer rides of
70 to 80 miles with it and I really love how it enables me to do rides
of the length. I just wish I had time to do longer rides. I think
I'll post a two year review on the BentUpCycle site to make up for the
one I did last year and my getting the brakes all wrong.

Alaska? Yes Alaska would be fun if I could figure a couple of things
out to make it work. I would really love to do it someday on the
Carbent. I use to lead bike tours in Alaska and have ridden most of
all the roads that Dana rode for the Big Wild One. If you want to do
a little dreaming and planning check out http://milepost.com/ it will
give you a mile by mile of what is on every highway in Alaska.

I just recently rolled over 17,000 miles on my Carbent. I've changed
out various things over the past 2 years including the brakes for the
X-eyed, and the shifters to SRAM bar ends and XO deraileur (just
recently). I've changed out wheel various time, adding Power Tap hubs
and having Zipp 404 for aero and durable 32 spoke alloy rear for
commuting and rando riding. However, after tons of miles the 32 spoke
blew a spoke a couple weeks back, not too surprising considering the
mileage and abuse. Overall my Carbent is working great even if I've
been slacking lately! :)

Ah hah!!!!!!!  ;-)  Rim is actually OK, save for some braking surface wear. We'll re-spoke it.

Mike, I am going to be there. I have really missed that ride.

The Dragon and I have been through some tough times. Two years ago
while running with the lead group in a large charity ride I was taken
out by a rider who had a flat. The Dragon was broken in the wreck and
a new (stronger) frame replaced her. Last year I was run off the road
by two dump trucks. No injuries to me but my front 4 spoke Corima was
trashed and still hasn't been replaced. My Spinergy's are showing
some wear but are still good wheels.
I am still running my Rotor cranks up front and had all of the
bearing replaced this year. I also switched the front brake to the
Simpkins Egg. A real nice unit, small and strong.

My miles have dropped way off in the last month but I am going to
ramp back up in the next couple of weeks. I love my Carbent but try
and limit the wear and tear
on it by thrashing my trike on most training rides. I probably only
have 1000 miles of my 4000 this year
on the Sea Dragon.

Hi Ward,

You like the Simkin Egg brakes?  We tried a set, but could never get any real power out of them...

Dana,

I'm just using it on the front but however Bill set it up it works great.  Grabs strong and has good modulation.
I really like the way it looks as well.

Simkin Egg Brakes look cool.
I just picked up some used m5 and they are interesting light powerful
and non aero. For my 15lb ultralight bike yet to be built;-)

I didin't see you in Claxton? I was with the Bacchetta guys camping.
I was the first to arrive and went trike riding and riding on the
carbent Friday afternoon. Claxton is a great riding area. There was
frost in the morning and the campers all decided they were going to
wait until nine to start. I thought about it and decided if I got
dropped starting so late it could be a night ride... So I started out
on my Sea Dragon a few minutes before the BTrain to get warmed up. I
also got to ride with Mark and LInda Powers of Power on Cycling.
Another Bacchetta rider had my same philosophy for the day so we rode
on together. The B Train arrived at the first rest stop as I was
leaving and same at the second. At the third rest stop they were just
behind me and I thought they were ready to ride...and just before the
fourth rest stop they finally gave me some help. It was a wonderfull
next fifty miles. Ended up with averaging about 19.5mph. They were
riding at a restricted wattage for JS. (Kent Polk said his heart rate
was ave 109 for the day, I had some extra beats for him) Slow for them
but great for me. It wasn't until the last 2.5 mile that the cork was
unplugged. I met them back at the barn. We had a great weekend.
Today I went for another trike ride. No one from Bacchetta stayed to
ride.
( I did visit the Claxton Fruitcake Factory. It is much better
fresh.)

I had family issue's come up at the last minute. Trust me, I wish I had been
there. Sounds like I missed a great time.
