Tragedy Befalls Emmaus UMC
On an evening of promised fellowship, young people from Emmaus UMC met with tragedy Friday, 3 Dec 2010. At least three United Methodists have since died from injuries sustained from the accident, while others remain in critical condition in several hospitals within Mindoro Oriental.
United Methodist Youth and Young Adults were waiting for their friends when a bus collided with their kuliglig (a farm hand tractor converted into a conveyance popular in the provinces). Said kuliglig was parked in front of Emmaus UMC, with 14 passengers waiting inside. They were going to attend a regular zone fellowship at St. Peter UMC in the next barangay.
Ptr. Greg Sonio in Mamburao advises that they are in need of legal assistance for this hit-and-run. Criminal charges will be filed against the bus driver and/or the bus company.
