Braille and coding and confidence too,
A place where great teachers create something new.

If you have ever imagined the kind of job where you could design innovative learning experiences, build programs that reach students across an entire state, and collaborate with a team that believes deeply in what students who are blind and low vision can achieve, this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

The California School for the Blind is seeking a Short-Term Programs Coordinator (Teacher Specialist) to lead and expand one of the most creative and impactful programs in the field. The position helps design and deliver school-year short courses and statewide summer academies, building innovative, accessible learning experiences for students who are blind or visually impaired.

This role sits at the intersection of teaching, program design, collaboration, and outreach. The coordinator works with educators, families, and partners across California to develop engaging courses, evaluate program impact, and continually improve learning opportunities for students.

A few highlights:

  • Annual salary: $107,400 – $142,860 (Recruitment & retention stipend included in the total)

  • 194 workdays aligned with the academic calendar

  • Summer Academies: an additional 15 June workdays valued at approximately $7,190 – $9,932

Sidenote:

  • Salary steps are relatively quick to move through. At 5% increases it will take about 6 years to move from the bottom to the top of the salary range, and many candidates will enter above Step 1 depending on experience.

Just as important as the numbers is the work itself. Short-Term Programs is a small, focused team with dedicated support staff and extraordinary flexibility to imagine new programs, develop new courses, and create experiences that students remember for years.

It is difficult to think of another role in the field that offers this level of creativity, statewide impact, and program leadership.
