Hi All,

Scroll down a bit to highlighted area - highlighted by me.  These folks are liars with hutzpah!  NAPVI does not have a new name.  THE LIGHTHOUSHE GUILD wiped out, erased, exterminated, extinguished, obliterated, destroyed and abolished NAPVI.  NAPVI's Executive Director of 25 years was terminated with two weeks notice.  Its board was disappeared.  Its affiliates were unaffiliated and no one even bothered to inform them that they no longer were NAPVI affiliates.  NAPVI no longer exists - IT DOES NOT HAVE A NEW NAME.  It does not have its own board of directors made up of parents of children who are blind or have visual impairments.  This board was elected by other parents of children with visual impairments.  NAPVI was an organization created to support and to represent parents of children who are blind or have visual impairments.  The Lighthouse Guild is an organization of professionals not parents.

Even knowing how devious and underhanded was the Lighthouse Guild's modus operandi, I was still amazed to read that "NAPVI has a new name:"  How can something that doesn't exist have a name?  Much less a "new name"?  I am writing this to inform folks that they should not contribute to this unethical organization thinking they are contributing to NAPVI or to a group of parents who support other parents.  I also want to warn other small groups to steer clear of this organization lest they too be swallowed up and disappeared.

Sincerely,
Judith Lesner

April 2018

Greetings from Lighthouse Guild

In our continued efforts to share information and resources with you, Lighthouse Guild will send monthly e-newsletters on topics of interest to families of children with visual impairments.  A calendar of events will also be included.  We hope that these e-newsletters will be helpful to you and your family.  We welcome your feedback.

We want to take this opportunity to let you know that NAPVI has a new name:  Lighthouse Guild Parent Support Network.  Lighthouse Guild will continue its commitment and support to you by providing you with resources and the information you need to help your children reach their full potential.

For tips and suggestions for families who have children newly diagnosed with a vision condition, please visit Resources for Parents of Newly Diagnosed Children with Visual Impairments.  We have highlighted a few of the most important things to get you started during these difficult times.

The national Parent Tele-Support Group includes 10 groups organized by eye condition. The groups meet by phone weekly and are facilitated by a psychologist or social worker. Meeting times are conveniently scheduled to accommodate busy families. Groups invite professionals and experts to discuss topics of interest.

This year we are expanding our Teen Tele-Support Group to include students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.  As with all groups, the participants will generate their own discussion topics. Topics may range from mobility, social/recreational questions, technology ideas, college application process, and other school issues.

This is just a reminder that there are no Parent Support Network registration fees for either individuals or organizations.
