Roland,

We’ve made the call to go ahead with our bike to work day festivities on Friday as planned.  It looks like the 50% chance of rain forecast for Friday is the best we can hope for.  I’ll be out on the Plaza at noon and since I suspect you’ll be the only person riding a unicycle I shouldn’t have too much trouble picking you out of the crowd.  Everything will be taking place in front of Agency Building 1 but you can do your demo wherever works best for you.

Thanks for helping out with our bike to work day event. Looking forward to meeting you on Friday!

Chuck

Roland/Chuck,

I thought I would formally introduce you to each other as I will not be able to attend the Bike to Work Day activities.

Roland, Chuck is the main coordinator of this event and, if needed a contact if you need anything the rest of this week. I don?t expect you would but you never know.  Due to the potential inclement weather, we are working on developing a rain date. It is looking like the following Wednesday may be it. Chuck will keep you in the loop on these type of issues. If you can make the rain date, that?s excellent. If you can?t we totally understand.

Thanks again for showing people a little about uni riding!

Mark

OPRHP Bike to Work Day

Friday

May 20, 2011

Don?t forget to register for OPRHP?s first annual Bike to Work Day for Albany and Peebles Island staff next Friday.   Even if you currently walk or bike to work every day, please fill out a registration form so we can include you in the event and recognize your efforts.  Return the completed form to either Michele Phillips (Peebles Island staff) or Chuck Parmentier (Agency Bldg. 1 staff).

The organizing committee has a number of activities planned to get everyone in the biking mindset and to make this a fun day for everyone in Parks, not just those who will be riding or walking to work.  Highlights include:

CDTA BusPlus ? CDTA will have one of their new hybrid, BusPlus busses on display on the Plaza in front of the building from 11:00 a.m. ? 1:00 p.m.   All CDTA busses now have bike racks on the front to facilitate trips for cyclists.  CDTA staff will be on hand to show interested onlookers how to use the bike racks and may even have some giveaways for those who tour the new bus!!!

Downtube Bicycle Display ? The Downtube Bike Shop, located just a few blocks up Madison Avenue, will have a tent set up in front of the building with a variety of different bikes on display.   You?ll have the opportunity to check out the latest in cycling technology so if you don?t have a bike now, or are in the market for a new bike, you may just find one you like.  The roadway around the Plaza will make the perfect venue for a test spin on a new two wheeler!

Unicycle Demonstration -   Roland Kays, an avid mountain unicyclist who rode his unicycle across the width of Panama will provide a demonstration of riding skill, with a few trick moves thrown in, at noon on the Plaza in front of Agency 1.

For those who ride or walk we?ll also have:

Bagels and coffee ? set up in the Agency 1 lobby on the morning of the event so the riders and walkers can refuel before starting the work day.  These refreshments are courtesy of the Public Employees Federation (PEF).

CDTA BusPlus Prize Packs ? Everyone who registers for Bike to Work Day will have their name placed in a drawing to win one of two BusPlus Prize Packs generously donated by CDTA.

For more information contact any of the members of the organizing committee:

Sally Drake

Mark Hohengasser

Dan Keefe

Chuck Parmentier

Michele Phillips

Register now and join in on the fun!!!

We hope to see you and your bike on May 20th!
