Hello...Does the Roland RD-300sx Stage Piano have the Brand New Grand Piano Patch that the RD-700sx and SRX-11 Piano Uses?...Also Does someone have the Patch Sound listing for the RD-300sx, I can't seem to find it anywhere...Anyone using the RD-300sx yet...How do you rate it?...I just purchased the RD-700sx for my Wife...We may sell it...Beautiful Piano, But It's somewhat more than we need...The Music Store Did not Stock the RD-300sx and could not answer my questions....Any help would be appreciated!

Unless the weight of the instrument is a critical factor (54lb v 35lb?) I think you might not like the action on the 300 after playing the 700.I think that action is worth a few hundred extra bucks. The Superb grand is a few 'notches' above the Fantom X sample as well.

And even though the Roland RD700SX's Supreme/Ultimate/Mondo/Gonzo Piano sound (or whatever the friggin' thing is called... ) is a few "notches" above the Roland Fantom X sample (which is found in the RD300SX) - if the Fantom X sample is VERY good to begin with - I'm thinking that the RD300SX is definitely worth a look, for gigmen (er, uh - "gigpersons"?) seeking a very lightweight yet good-sounding digital piano.

I tried the Roland FP2 in a store a few months back and although I could definitely tell the pianos were not quite as incredible as those on the Yamaha P-series (P90 and yes, even the P120 - with or without the freakin' sympathetic resononance... ), they were still pretty darn good I'd say (of course, I'm not hypercritical) - plus, the FP2 had a lot of other things going for it:

I just purchased the RD-700sx for my Wife...We may sell it...Beautiful Piano, But It's somewhat more than we need...The Music Store Did not Stock the RD-300sx and could not answer my questions....Any help would be appreciated!

Harold.....Question: did you buy your RD700SX from the above music store that couldn't answer your questions about the 300SX? If so, I wouldn't buy anything from them again. All Roland dealers have that info or can get it, why would you want to deal with them? You might as well get something from an Internet company if your local dealer doesn't know what they're doing.

If you just wanted a few nice piano patches and not interested in all the features the 700sx has, it COULD be overkill for a home user. The 700sx will have far better resale value if you ever choose to sell it in the future.

Nowadays, with Internet access + manufacturers publishing all the specs about their products online - the consumer should always have the upper hand, I think. If "Joe Blow's Music" down the block can't or won't answer your questions, forget about him. Find a reputable online dealer that will! Or go to a mega-super-music. corp-conglomeration chain store (Guitar Cente, Sam Ash, etc...) - they'll be happy to take your money + will usually answer your questions in order to do so.

Maybe you can go to Dave's and try out the RD300SX + then go back to the schlub dealer you bought the 700 from and request that you return it and they order the 300 - OR you demand a full refund + go buy it at Dave Philips...

Thanks everyone...The Dealer I purchased from is Excellent!...I have purchased from them for Years and very pleased...Maybe I should have added more Information in my questions, etc...I was looking for some Input from maybe someone who actually owns the RD-300sx..".What do they think of it?"...I still cannot seem to come up with the Patch list of Sounds anywhere...Roland does not make it real clear on the Grand Piano's...I was hoping the New Grand that is in the SRX-11 and RD-700 was included...You see on Feb 5th I went to purchase the SRX-11 Piano Bd at the Dealer...Lord behold there was the RD-700SX they just received! I played it that was it ...I had to take it Home(For my Wife) Excuse! just kidding it's her birthday this month and I wanted to replace her RD-150...They did not receive the 300sx yet so I could not compare, etc...Anyways $1749 is not a bad price...My wife is a Pianist...I'm a little of everything I guess...I purchased the SRX-11 Bd for my Roland Synth which I mostly play( Arthritus in my Fingers, etc)...So I guess Maybe the RD-300sx would fullfill her needs)Strictly Piano PLaying and The lighter action would be better for me also when using it...Plus it's much lighter if we need to move it...and Yes I could most likely take it back, but I'm looking for some User Reviews on The RD-300sx first .... Then If we decide, I'll just sell it at that time and buy the 300sx........So I just want to clairify...The RD-700sx is a Beautiful Stage Piano...The Dealer is Excellent... Just Need some Reviews of anyone owning the RD-300sx...then I'll try one...Maybe I'll Drive 60 miles and Buy it!...

As i mentioned in another thread, i ended up buying the 300SX for various reasons, and so far im very happy with it - the 'one touch' Piano sounds excellent and is very 'expressive' to play - note that it's based on the fantom-X and not on the new SRX-11 (clearly mentioned in the manual).

As a digital piano it's really easy to use and straightforward, but if you're planning to use it as a controller or for performances, it might take you a while to get used to editing parameters - Obviously, It's not as easy as the 700SX due to the small LED, and i still find myself looking in the manual for things like 'how do i turn local off ?' ... but once you get the hang of it it's really not an issue.

What i really like is that you can set several parameters independtly for each layer (like pitch bender, damper, drum pattern, including levels for each, etc...) and save tem in presets - so for performances it's really cool ...

As a controller, i managed to connect it to a PC (though USB) and w/o installing any drivers, it recognized it as "RD-300X" and was immediately ready to be used in apps like Reason, Live, etc .. can't get any simpler or easier...

Thank you Sudo!....Just the Information I was looking for....And Thank you for the link(I must have done something wrong in trying to download the Manual Information)...I'll try again now...I've been working some 12 hour days starting at 12 Mid until 12noon....I think my brain is sleepy also!...No better reference on a keyboard than someone actually owning one, thank you...Another reason as someone mentioned If I go with the 300sx maybe I can get the New Roland Module with Sampling or Motif es Module for not to much difference!...So there is alot that plays into this....My Roland Synth is the First Fantom 76 Model...MY Wife would be happy with either Stage Piano...I guess there is several options...If anyone else plays the RD-300sx I'll be glad to hear about it!...And thanks to everyone who contributed to my Post... I appreciate it...

I didn't spend too much time with the Rhythms yet... but the few patterns that i played are decent, although they sounded like 2-measures (I can check it out later to confirm) so they can get a bit repetitive.

One detail that i really liked is that most patterns come in pairs (at least most of the ones i tried) , i.e. one of them is a basic pattern and the very next pattern# is a variation... very handy when u'r playing and want to add a quick variation...

no I wouldn't say significantly lighter, it just feels different... I really liked the 700SX's action - it probably feels 'firmer/more rigid' but not too much heavier - ok i tried ... you really have to try them both yourself.

Seriously... I'm sure I would prefer the RD700sx (knowing me... I have expensive taste... LOL), but at 54lbs, I know I wouldn't gig with it (even though it's much lighter than my P200). The 35lb RD300sx is already attractive based on weight alone, and I didn't want the P80/P90 because I already have the P200, and I want some variety. Wonder if my local GC has them in...

seems like if I hit it medium or hard I would get different responses and this totally odd guitar like sample (Plink). And you could hear this very obvious velocity switch. Sounded VERY out of place. Almost like the piano was metalic in that octave, etc. I really hope this is not the norm as this would totally make no sense for Roland to have a sound like this.

Just "played" through the SRX-11 demos at rolandus.com. To my ears it's much better than the old Concert Piano SRX board I briefly bought and returned. Hope it plays as well as it sounds. The old board was horrible in the velocity switching when using synth action, hope the new board isn't "hammer-action only" for decent results. (Yes, I tried playing with different synth keyboards, adjusting the keyboard velocity settings, etc and etc, nothing worked, as pointed out at Sound On Sound). I have been patiently waiting for this since I bought my XV-5050. Guess I can try filling that 2nd slot again now. Also, hope it doesn't have the pitch problems in the lower octaves the old board had...

I can state that I have never played or heard a ' perfect' acoustic piano. With all the hammer mechanisms and ambient noise , artifacts or other characteristics are inevitable. The chore to sample an acoustic piano must be incredible.

That Roland RD300SX looks to be a very good choice for someone like me: playing live, lots of solo/duo work... if it sounds good through my JBL EON15 G2, that's all I care about. If there's an odd-sounding note or two that ONLY manifests itself when playing at a SPECIFIC velocity thru headphones, well then, come on: I'm just not that picky that it would bother me. I certainly would not be sitting home making albums with the thing...
