Hi, i want to switch to linux mint (from windows), but i have 2 questions. Is there a way to install microsoft teams and microsoft office? I won't be able to change my OS if i cant't download ms office(the only one i m allowed to use for work) And how do you customize your desktop environment? some of the ones i've seen in this subreddit are really cool.

Using a DVD drive, Mint will run slowly, but it will run quickly enough to give you an idea of what it's like to use Mint. From a USB stick, Mint runs fast enough to give you a good notion of what working with Mint is like. Indeed it's fast enough that I use Mint USB sticks for work, sometimes on office PCs.

You should then update your system to the latest software. Unlike Windows patches, when you update Mint, you're updating not just your operating system but all the other programs, such as: the default web browser, Firefox; office-suite, LibreOffice; and any other programs you've installed from Mint's Software Manager.

Between Linux Mint 4.0 "Daryna" and Linux Mint 9.0 "Isadora", more and more tools make Linux Mint unique: mintupdate, mintinstall, mintdisk, mintmenu, mintdesktop, mintnanny, mintbackup, mintstick, mintwelcome, mintupload...

A pretty good product, sunk by its price (plus the extra cost of the physical keyboard and the pencil). Buy it if you don't mind the Apple tax and are looking for a very light office machine with an excellent digitizer. Particularly good for rich students. Bad for cheap tinkerers like myself.

Sorry I couldn't update later, but my Win10 laptop updated itself and kill my WIFI. That's right, a 2-month old laptop, with all connections set to "metered", and configured to not download updates on metered connections, downloaded and installed an update, and kill the WiFi driver in the process... Too bad I don't have a linux driver for the WiFi card yet, because this machine will get Linux more than any other.

For US-English, there is no libreoffice-l10n-en-us package as it is the default language. Spelling, hyphenation, thesaurus (synonyms) and help files still have to be installed:
sudo apt install hunspell-en-us hyphen-en-us mythes-en-us libreoffice-help-en-us

You may want to install additional icon themes. The new Colibre theme is installed by default. You could install all available icon themes with the following command (not recommended):
sudo apt install libreoffice-style*

The themes HiContrast, Industrial and Oxygen do not include SVG variants of the icons and are not actively maintained. Karasa Jaga was introduced as an alternative to Oxygen.
sudo apt install libreoffice-style-karasa-jaga

1.) What I do is images the live USB restore image of Clonezilla or true image.
2.) Then I boot up on a Linux Mint USB and use gParted to shrink the bootable live partition down to its smallest passible size.
3.) Then I partition the free space to give me a drive for the restore image.
4.) I reboot and boot from the live true image or clonezilla and make an image of the disk onto the free-space I partitioned and formatted. So only one USB is need by the end user.
5.) boot into Linux mint and use gParted to shrink the Clonezilla or true image partition leaving the unused space unallocated.
6.) Then I open up Disk and make an image of the usb, so a 32gb falshdrive produces a 32gb image file regardless if 22gb are just unused drive space.
7.) I open terminal and do some command magic and shrink the image down to the size of the actual partitions removing the unallocated space.
8.) This way you can take a 32gb image that only needs to be 10GB, and trim it down to an image that is only 10GB so it can be imaged to a 16GB drive if desired.

I have succesfully installed office 2007 using Wine under 1 account on my parents computer (which now runs on linux mint 13 LTS XFCE). I installed it under 1 account and normally, when you do this in windows, it is installed for all accounts.

Working as a systems administrator I did use the "Locations" functionality on my Mac. We use VLANs both in our office and data center. This functionality was really helpful if I was in the data center and had to quickly switch the network profile and access DC VLANs without re-configuring network connections. After switching to Linux it was a bit annoying to change settings every time I went into data center. Searching on the Internet for a possible solution got no results, so one day I took a deeper look on possible configurations and finally found how to set it up. It's still not that easy and beatiful like in MacOS, but it works (even if you have to do some additional steps to switch the network profile).

I am looking over my version of Libreoffice - which again... I am heavy into customization so mine looks different from both Mint and Zorin because I changed mine on both... Long ago enough...

So... What you want is for it to not look like that and I am not sure what Settings may be involved... So, I wonder if you would be able to remove --purge Libreoffice, then install the Mint Version.
Let me look into a reasonable method of doing so and get back to this...

This simple application is used to have an Office 365 outside its PWA version or open a thousand tabs and without having to depend on browsers such as Chrome or Opera to be used, also being able to have a web office in the form of application for the use of the main office applications such as

The most widely used office productivity suite in the world is Microsoft Office. It doesn't matter if your PC runs Windows 10 or macOS, it's likely that you're using Microsoft Office. If you're not, you have a colleague who is.

It might not be the full Microsoft Office, but what is made available via your browser is certainly good enough for a big chunk of office-based tasks. It's an easy way to start without paying for the full Microsoft Office suite.

As the suite is browser-based, it's not going to be available offline. However, you can make things smoother by setting office.live.com as a desktop shortcut. Files will be saved to the cloud, and the best way to manage this is with a Microsoft OneDrive account. Check out why you should use Microsoft's OneDrive for personal cloud storage.

Need the full Microsoft Office on Linux? You'll need to install it. Now, you probably think that it isn't possible to install Windows software on Linux, and to a certain degree, that is true. Fortunately, other tools are available to help you install Windows software like Microsoft Word on Linux, along with the rest of the office suite.

Yes, open-source alternatives are best for most Linux office productivity tasks but installing Microsoft Office overcomes document compatibility problems. This can prove vital in meeting deadlines or accessing complex spreadsheets and databases.
