I’m planning to drive up to Plainview early on Saturday morning and get the paint shop hanger area cleaned up and organized so we can assemble the 2–33 Glider and have room to store the Blanca scout that Jarrett will bring in from Littlefield. It’ll take about four people to assemble and rig the glider and Jarrett will need to find some people to go up to Plainview to help him get the scout out of the hanger and then reposition his vehicle to Plainview.

Jarrett is gonna try to find two people to drive up with him to Littlefield-one person to fly with him in the scout over to Littlefield and another person to reposition his vehicle to Plainview Airport. 

I’ve been trying to strip the paint off the lower wing mount clusters of the Pawnee-I’ve been trying paint stripper, gasoline and  napha - yesterday I bought a gallon of MEK which I’m told should be able to soften the yellow zink sulfate paint so we can clean the cluster mounts for the dye penetrant checks.

If you drive up to the Plainview airport we will be in the old paint shop building on the west side of the airport.

We hope to get the Scout relocated to Plainview and your 2-22 assembled and flying soon. Then we can work on getting the 2-33 and 1-26 from Littlefield as well. We were going to do that two weekends ago but the cold bug was going around and had several people out with that. Hopefully this weekend. The winds here in Lubbock and Plainview have been awful on the days that anyone can make it out as well. Bill Fitzgerald, one of our CFI-G, tow pilots and A&P has made significant progress on the Pawnee. We hope to have it ready to tow very soon. I made it up to Plainview to test fly a motor glider for a friend of mine last Sunday. It hadn't flown in like 10 years. Thermals were pretty good for early spring. Made it up to 10k feet. I think that we are getting people excited to fly again. I am very excited as well. The word is getting out. I think that we will have something special here in Plainview.

I was hoping that this Saturday 3/8/2028 would be favorable to doing some glider operations. The weather is calling for freezing temperatures and snow so Saturday is out. 

 

Sunday looks better if anyone is available to help out. I am available Sunday afternoon. 

 

Things that we need to accomplish over the next few weekends to get ready for soaring season are:

 

1. Assemble the 2-33 that Bill Fisher has in Plainview so that we can start flying it and get some hours on it. It currently is in annual and is ready to have the wings attached.

 

2. Move the Scout and supporting equipment over to Plainview to tow the glider that we currently have in annual. 

 

3. Move one or more of the dollies so that we can move the 2-33 currently in Plainview in and out of the hangar while it is assembled.

 

4. Bill Fitzgerald has been working a lot on getting the Pawnee ready to fly again. It has to have a dye penetration test done on the wing attach points. After that we should be close to having two tow planes flying again.
