It has been a while since I last posted anything. I have been busy but I am back with a fun article. I came across a job posting on Upwork where someone was looking for a software that plays the lyrics of a Spotify song on dual screens. One screen will display the English lyrics and the other one will display Hungarian lyrics. I was really intrigued so I decided to give it a go. In this article I am going to talk about the whole thought process I went through while trying to figure out a solution as I think that part is often missing from programming tutorials.

As you can see, the lyrics are all synced up with the song. Only the currently playing stanza is showed up on the screen. The lyrics are loaded from local text files where each song has an accompanying text file containing the lyrics.

The second project was a bit more useful. It gives the name of the currently playing song and the artist for that song. Most importantly, it was multi-platform. I figured that if I can get this to work on my machine, I can use the name of the song and the artist to locate a local text file containing the lyrics of the song and display them in a browser window using Flask.

After figuring out the Apple Script, I decided that I was going to prepare the lyrics files such that there was a timecode before each stanza. I can then process these lyrics files in Python and match the track position with the appropriate stanza.

I had a lot of fun while working on this project. I hope you learned about my thought process in this article and saw how you can go from point 0 to a fully working project and put different pieces together. If you like reading about this kind of stuff please comment below. I love to hear from you guys!

Updated lyrics appear immediately on our site, but with the massive global lyrics rollout, it might take a little more time than usual for you to view them on Spotify, but it's usually about 48 - 72 hours. You can also reach out to Spotify to follow up.

This API is not designed nor documented for public use, and is additionally not licensed (see Musixmatch's API, where Spotify gets their lyrics from anyway), so using it (or bragging about finding it on StackOverflow) will likely only have Spotify further lockdown their API, and you (unlikely but possibly) getting into legal trouble (IANAL).

That being said, these Bearer xxx tokens are different to the ones created from Spotify's official API, and the easiest way to find these tokens is just by automating the process of logging in (probably in a browser), and making the request (these tokens may need to be refreshed either every few minutes/hours/days, so automation is key here). I'd suggest to start looking into Puppeteer or MS Playwright on a headless browser, and just retrieving Bearer tokens from there. If the API seems to break with those Bearer tokens, it may be best to perform the request from Puppeteer itself in the browser, by replicating the original request, and amending the song ID.

Also, please send feedback on your devices as soon as you experience the issue. Just say, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by keywords: Nest display not showing Spotify lyrics. Learn more about how to send feedback in our Help Center.

I have a 1st gen Google Home/Nest Hub. When a song on Spotify initially plays the two toggle buttons (show/hide lyrics and favorite/unfavorite) on the right under the time slider flashes for a split second and then disappear. If I spam tap where the buttons render while skipping the current song I can force the press to have lyrics appear but still have the same behavior with the toggle buttons not rendering.

Thanks for keeping this thread active with some useful info. Our team is already working on this. Has anyone here already sent a feedback referring to this issue? Just say, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by keywords: Nest display not showing Spotify lyrics. Learn more about how to send feedback in our Help Center.

After looking into it, our team has discovered this was a change made by Spotify - displaying lyrics no longer works with some of their subscriptions. If you wish to use this feature or are unhappy with the change, we recommend reaching out to their team with your feedback.

Same issue here, happening for months. Usually the button will briefly display for 1-2 seconds when the music starts, and again just before it ends (usually lasting more). And if you manage to click the button, then the lyrics are displayed correctly and will be kept open when the next song plays.

Kashi is a widget that display the lyrics of the current song playing on Spotify, iTunes, or Youtube on the Touch Bar. Here are some videos of it in action (may take a minute to load):

Thanks for getting back to me. Testing the print statements: all of them work and dispense the correct lyrics in terminal, which seems to suggest that the python modules are set up correctly (the path for python3 is also correct). Copying and pasting the JSON into the settings seems to create the same result: just blank Touch Bar space, not even a button as far as I can tell.

Could you try creating the widget from scratch? Create a new "Run Shell Script And Show Return Value" script widget and confirm that it's showing text. Then copy+paste the .py script (Parameter = "-c").

The printWisdom function just prints a music-related quote (static data) if there are no hits from the lyrics API, so it doesn't tell much about your configuration.. The key here is that you can't see the player data. Is the py script able to spit out the player data? Try printing the variable "player_data" (or "browser_data" if it's Youtube) after line 17 and see what comes out.

Spotify also lets you share the lyrics on your Instagram Story or Facebook page. You can do this by tapping on the share icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Just select which lyrics you want to share by tapping on each line.

If you want to sing along to a song, the best way to do it is with the Spotify TV app. Since the lyrics will be presented on the biggest screen in your house, it will significantly improve your music streaming experience. You can access Spotify TV with a Firestick or Roku.

Spotify added the real-time lyrics a few days ago. Not every song is availble to this new feature. So I use Soundhound and Audfree as supplyment. I am happy to find your web app and I will try it later, Thanks in advance.

With the cooperation of Genius, Spotify launched a new feature, that is, view lyrics. So, you could see lyrics on Spotify with Genius. But the feature of viewing lyrics on Spotify only enables you to get some lyrics instead of full lyrics. To listen to Spotify tracks with lyrics, you need an app called Musixmatch.
If you want to view lyrics while listening to music offline, just use Tunelf Spotify Music Converter, and it enables you to download music from Spotify. Then you can listen to Spotify music offline and also view your song lyrics.

Spotify has plenty of fun features, including its ability to show on-screen lyrics for almost any song. But if Spotify lyrics are not working, you might be stuck singing the chorus. Or you can invent new lyrics if you want to get creative.

Spotify offers digital copyright restricted recorded audio content, including more than 100 million songs and five million podcasts, from record labels and media companies.[8] As a freemium service, basic features are free with advertisements and limited control, while additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are offered via paid subscriptions. Users can search for music based on artist, album, or genre, and can create, edit, and share playlists.

As of December 2023, Spotify was the 47th most-visited website in the world with 24.78% of its traffic coming from the United States followed by Brazil with 6.51% according to data provided by Semrush.[12][13]

Spotify was founded in 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden,[16] by Daniel Ek, former CTO of Stardoll, and Martin Lorentzon, co-founder of Tradedoubler.[17][18] According to Ek, the company's title was initially misheard from a name shouted by Lorentzon. Later they conceived a portmanteau of "spot" and "identify".[19]

In April 2016, Ek and Lorentzon wrote an open letter to Swedish politicians, demanding action in three areas that they claimed hindered the company's ability to recruit top talent as Spotify grows, including access to flexible housing, better education in the programming and development fields, and stock options. Ek and Lorentzon wrote that to continue competing in a global economy, politicians needed to respond with new policies, or else thousands of Spotify jobs would be moved from Sweden to the United States.[23]

The Financial Times reported in March 2017 that, as part of its efforts to renegotiate new licensing deals with music labels, Spotify and major record labels had agreed that Spotify would restrict some newly released albums to its Premium tier, with Spotify receiving a reduction in royalty fees to do so. Select albums would be available only on the Premium tier for a period of time, before general release. The deal "may be months away from being finalized, but Spotify is said to have cleared this particular clause with major record labels".[49][50][51] New reports in April confirmed that Spotify and Universal Music Group had reached an agreement to allow artists part of Universal to limit their new album releases to the Premium service tier for a maximum of two weeks. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek commented that "We know that not every album by every artist should be released the same way, and we've worked hard with UMG to develop a new, flexible release policy. Starting today, Universal artists can choose to release new albums on premium only for two weeks, offering subscribers an earlier chance to explore the complete creative work, while the singles are available across Spotify for all our listeners to enjoy".[52][53][54] It was announced later in April that this type of agreement would be extended to indie artists signed to the Merlin Network agency.[55][56]
