Hey all,

Here's the July 7th meeting notes (nothing is locked in stone, but we need to start getting some solid decisions in. We are a week and a half out from the rally, and we have yet to advertise the event!) The meeting was attended by Paul C, Paul L, Masrour, Morag, Didi and Dex.

Location still not locked (Ashley should hear from the City tomorrow). It's looking like the south side of Science World or Victory Square.

After some discussion, we moved back to the idea of having a march to the speaker's area. We decided it would make people feel more involved if they march, and with two hours to fill it seemed a good choice (as we thought roughly a half hour of speakers was enough). If the location is Science World, we could meet in David Lam Park for the march, and if the location is Victory Square, we could meet at the Library. Police have been contacted, and have requested that we not do a street sit-in. Their experience is that blocking traffic leads to altercations between activists and the general public. They have asked that we march instead. We will respect this request.

We are still hoping for a free PA system and generator (or battery powered PA system) to appear. We will rent one if we need to.

We thought that 4 or 5 speakers would be a good number, each person having 5 minutes or so to speak. Selected are:

Don Davies, NDP MP who initiated an inquiry. Masrour to contact.
Don Wright - Amnesty International. Paul L has confirmed
David Iby - BCCLA. Confirmed
Two people who were arrested at the G20 in Toronto (several of those present at tonight's meeting felt they could find someone to speak)

Emcee - Paul C will contact Charlie Demers

Sign painting party - we need an update on this.

Outreach - Dayla's poster needs to get the official buy-off, and sent out in a printable format (we can print these ourselves, and poster our own neighbourhoods)
The information for the leaflet was hammered out at tonight's meeting, and will be spruced up by Paul L's staff tomorrow. We will have printable versions by Friday. Friday is leafletting day #1!
Paul L has volunteered to help Ashley with the social media campaign.

Media Wrangler - we have Santina M and Paul L to help.

Marshals - all hands available. Although we do not expect any trouble, it would be good to have many eyes on the playing field on the day of the rally. Paul C has reflective vests for marshalers.

If anyone sees any holes in our agenda or outreach, please speak up! Thanks all,

Paul C

For the record we need to have 12-15 marshalls at the very least. If possible can we try to have these marshalls secured by Thursday next week? I'd like to do a walk through before the rally itself.

By the way, here is an image that CAPP Toronto is using for their flyers.

Hello all,

A couple of thoughts on the notes from tonights meeting.

I have reservations about inviting folks who were arrest at the G20 to speak on the demo, as all the folks I know from Vancouver who were arrested at the G20 are self professed black bloc supporters. However, if folks know of any G20 arrestees from Vancouver who do not support the black bloc, I'd be willing to support their inclusion on the speakers list for the rally.

I would like to suggest we get a speaker from the Council of Canadians, as they have come out in support of an inquiry into the Toronto G20. I would also like to suggest Derrick O'keefe as a speaker, as he gave an excellent report back on the G20 at our Stopwar meeting tonight (even though he wasn't arrested), and we had him down as a potential speaker at the Friday meeting.

Tim

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I was really tired last night: here's the image they're using.

I would also like to say that someone from the CoC would be nice to have. Let me contact Don Davies and if he wasn't available, maybe we could get someone from the Council.

I'll talk to Norman tomorrow. He wrote the speech that Penny read at the Jan 23rd rally.

Cheers,

Paul C

I completely love that flyer.   Can we use that layout with our copy?  I can grab the image off that file and use it.   I printed it in black and white and it still works OK.

Okay. Phone tag is on again. I've been redirected to Vancouver Parks Board, I just left them a message and am about to send them an e-mail. I feel confident that we'll have space by this afternoon. I find it hard to believe that every space we want to use is going to be used on the same day, haha.

I'm so sorry that this is taking so long!

hi masrour

i'd really like to use this image on facebook - would it be possible for you to contact someone in toronto to get a high quality version of it, preferably either in .psd or some other editable format?

if you give me the contact info i can communicate with the person myself.

thx,
reilly

If someone has access to the original photo my people can rebuild it with the CAPP Vancouver logo rather than Toronto’s.

Sure. Let me see if I can track down the person who's got the original image.

Here's a version of that image that I found on the web: the resolution is probably too low, but I thought I might as well show it to you until the folks in Toronto get their act together.
