Good Morning!
I hope everyone is doing well this morning. We are coming upon one week until the rally and there are a number of things we still need to do.
First and foremost we will be having an everyone meeting on Monday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 14. 6:00pm, VCC Broadway Campus, in the cafeteria. There are a lot of kinks to work out and I think we'd like to get everyone on the same page. Sometimes when people are divided into committees they hardly speak to each other and so are unaware of what's happening in other areas; we'd like to prevent that from happening so we have a super smooth rally on the 17th.
For coming up to the event there are a number of tasks that need to be done. We need
- Placard Painters
- Leafletters
- Community Outreach
I am currently working on securing a location to paint placards tomorrow afternoon and at times next week. Worse comes to worst everyone is welcome to come to my house but I live in Surrey which is why I'm looking for an alternative location. I will provide as much paint as I can as well as cardboard and posterboard. I'll send out another e-mail this afternoon when the space is confirmed. Painting placards is lots of fun, I strongly encourage everyone to come out!
Leafletters: Paul LeBlanc has fantastically offered to have the handbills made. Once they are made I will happily print them and disperse them. Ideally tomorrow (if it's not unbearably hot) people will go out around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland and talk to people on the street about July 17th's rally and the issues we're standing up for. Further I am volunteering, and I hope others will as well, to spend my evenings next week handbilling. The only evening I'm unavailable is Tuesday. Follow up e-mails will come. But please, if you're able and willing to handbill, drop me an e-mail so I can know who my guaranteed handbillers are.
Community Outreach: We need to put up the posters that Dayla has been so kind as to design. This means on the post things around Vancouver as well as going into stores and restaurants and seeing if they will put up the poster as well. In my experience most businesses are more than happy to post the information. This is a good thing done in the evenings when businesses are less busy. When it comes to the poster cylinder things (oh technical terms) around Vancouver, they are all removed on Tuesdays so we may want to head out after the meeting on Wednesday to post the posters. I'll print posters and bring them to the meetings.
On the day of the event we have a number of tasks that are required, right now we need to know who is available for:
Set up: We ask that you're at the event site by 12:00 on July 17th to get everything ready. We'll need some people at the Library to have the placards ready and make the area look prepped. We'll need the majority of set up people at Victory Square to set up everything there as that is our main speaking location (we'll have to set up the PA system). We'll need some people to remain at Victory Square to help with the flow of people as they arrive.
Marshalling: We need people who are confident in directing our ralliers where to go, to ensure they don't get hit by traffic, to make sure they stay on the side of the road we've been designated. We need at least 15 marshallers. Please e-mail me to let me know if you can marshall or if you if you know anyone who would be willing to be marshaller. It's important that we know who the marshallers are by the Wednesday meeting so we can do a walk through with them either after the meeting on Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Strike: Let's leave our locations looking better than when we arrived. We'll need people to pick up garbage, help take down the PA System, etc etc. You know the drill :) Let's tidy the place up.
Okay. At this time that is everything I have to update you on.
Please let me know if you can do any of the above tasks. I apologize for the long e-mail.
I will talk to you via e-mail again in a couple of hours when place and time for placard painting is confirmed :)
Again, meetings for all people involved in organizing this rally (all committees, all volunteers, all interested peoples) on Monday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 14.
With hope,
Ashley Fehr
