All,

Thank you so much for all your suggestions in regards to the last
request for housing for an LU alumni.

I was just contacted by the mother of a current LU student looking for
housing in DC this summer. Please see e-mail below:

-----------------------------------------------------------
Hello! The LU Alumni office gave me your email address. I myself
attended LU btw 1982-1985, and I now have 3 who live at home and
attend since we’ve moved back to this area.

My daughter Larissa, (who will be 19 soon and just finishing her
freshman year) has been work on developing an internship in DC for
this summer. She has put in a lot of effort on her own, but I feel
that she still needs help with housing. Because it is a new program
that she wants to do, it does not fall under the other internship and
housing programs available. She wants to learn and internship with
the US Marshall program.

Might you know of any host families that she could room with and maybe
show her how to get around and introduce her to the area? She does
have some money to allocated for room and board, though her budget is
tight. I know this is very last minute because she needs to be there
on May 31st to start, but again she was hoping to do this on her own
and hadn’t really asked for help.

But I feel extremely uncomfortable trying to get her an apartment and
just dropping her off with no vehicle of her own and no one she knows
there. I have heard that the crime rate is high in this area. We
have no network or other support system or church families in DC. So
though she is determined, I feel we need some help and wondered if you
might have any ideas or helps.

This would be most wonderfully and truly appreciated. I fear that her
timing is unrealistic, but I wanted to at least try and see if I could
find any helps for her.

Thank you so much,

Linda Francois

P.S.: I have asked her if she might postpone this internship
opportunity until next summer so that we might have more time in
finding a place and building connections, but she didn’t think she
could, stating that this might be a one in a life time opportunity.
Your prayers also would be most welcome in this matter.

Please feel free to share this with others. My work number is below
and our home number is 434-237-7013.
