From Bethlehem Town Recylcing Coordinator Dan Rain:
I just had a very exciting conversation with Tyler Holloway of Empire Zero Waste. Their company has been successfully doing composting with the food waste from several local colleges and three local hospitals for about a year now.

They are beginning a residential food waste pilot program, and are looking to Bethlehem and Guilderland to begin the first pilots. Can you please help spread the word to your list?

If 10 or more people (20 people+ is ideal) sign up in the same part of Town (e.g.. Delmar, or Slingerlands for example), then they will begin a pilot here. We have the chance to be their first pilot community!

How it works:

They supply two 5-gallon buckets with easy-to-open screw-top "gamma" lids, and compostable bag liners.

You fill the buckets with any type of food waste (including fruits and veggies, grains, even meat, bones and dairy), and soiled paper or cardboard.

For $5/week, Empire Zero will pick up these buckets once a week, and at the end of the month will return one of them filled with fresh compost for your flower or vegetable garden!

More information is available from their company, but people can also contact me with questions or interest: dr...@townofbethlehem.org or 439-4955 x1510

Thanks!

I want to do a brief survey:

Who is also excited about how the idea of composting has taken off in this region?
