Hello Albany Sustainability Activists,
Legislation is being introduced once again that would make it legal for Albany residents to keep backyard chickens, sponsored by council members Judy Doesschate, Owusu Anane, and Tom Hoey. The bill has good support so far but we need your help to make sure it gets passed. If you are an Albany resident, please come speak in support of the bill this upcoming Thursday, May 16th, at 5:30 PM at Common Council's Law Committee meeting, City Hall. Please keep your comments limited to one minute or less.
Please also contact your ward representative to let them know that you support legalizing chickens in Albany. Here is the Council's website with a directory of wards, their representatives, and their contact information:
As Chair of Urban Agriculture for Albany's Sustainability Advisory Committee, I urge you to support this legislation. Backyard chickens play an important role in both food security and organics recycling in urban environments. Ensuring that all residents have the ability to produce food, recycle wastes, and build soil health is essential for creating just and equitable sustainability.
Please forward this email to all relevant contacts.
Thank you,
Scott Kellogg
