Come Join Us in Albany for the March
and Rally for Climate Action on Friday, April 22nd!
Everyone agrees we are facing a climate crisis, yet our state leaders have been timid at best in taking action. In 2021, and so far in 2022, the Legislature and the Governor have not taken close to strong enough steps to build on the landmark 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). For example, they have provided a small percentage of the billions in funding we need each year to help our state transition to a renewable energy economy, and to uplift Black and Brown and other vulnerable communities and create quality green energy jobs. And it is really unclear that several important steps to move our state forward, like building electrification will be passed into law in 2022.
We need to let our state leaders know that the climate can’t wait -- they need to get to work right now! Climate Can’t Wait, a vibrant new collaborative of over 40 organizations representing a cross-section of the climate justice movement, will be holding a large statewide march and rally on Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd, to let the Governor, our state legislators, and state agency heads know that they can’t just “talk the talk” on climate -- they must “walk the walk” by mandating a complete transition off fossil fuels, from buildings, to transportation, to power generation. And from April 16th to April 22ndrd, leading up to Earth Day, CCW is sponsoring the Empire State Bike Trek for Climate Action. At several events along the way to Albany, bikers and community greeters will demonstrate that New Yorkers everywhere are unified in our call for climate action now!
There are no excuses for inaction: the pathway to climate action is clear. Through a participatory and democratic process, Climate Can’t Wait has come up with a recommended list of 12 proposals that state leaders could act on today to seriously address the climate crisis.
[Name of organization] is a member of CCW, and is working with other groups in [region or city] to bring people to the rally and march. Free transportation is being provided from several locations in New York State: Register here to reserve your space on the bus or to let us know you’re coming on your own! We need everyone -- upstaters and downstaters, people of color and white folks, urban, suburban and rural folks, community members, faith community members, and labor -- to join us in a unified call for action. See you in Albany on April 22nd!
