Jeanne Nollman was a patient and subject of research at Albany Medical Center in 1977-78, where she was diagnosed with Gonadal Dysgenesis/Swyer Syndrome, though her medical condition was not fully disclosed to her at the time. She served as a two-term President for the largest intersex support group in the world, “AIS-DSD”. She spent the last 13 years educating doctors, lawyers, therapists, social workers, the criminal justice system, and college students on what intersex is and how people with DSDs (Disorders of Sex Development) are impacted physically and psychologically. The story of Ms. Nollman’s journey living with Swyer’s Syndrome has been featured on, “Mystery Diagnosis” and “Strange Sex”. She also participated in an international PSA video campaign by the United Nations. Lastly, the U.S. Government asked Ms. Nollman to help create policies that protect intersex individuals in jails and prisons. Since retiring from a 25-year career in Probation, Ms. Nollman divides her time between lecturing about intersex and her art studio.
