Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for deploying Rails apps in SA? Ie: Hosting solutions that cater specifically for Rails.

Something along the lines of Heroku or EngineYard that has a South African presence.

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian,

I'm not aware of any PAAS providers for rails in SA but there are some decent VPS options and real hardware too.

I know some people use Hetzner's server hosting option which about R800 per host for a nice beefy machine. I've personally used an Afrihost VPS at about R280pm that is a quad core 2.4Ghz with 4gb of ram which is really not bad for the price.

I very much doubt you'll find a Rails PAAS in SA but a VPS is a cheap alternative if you're not against doing some DevOps.

Check out http://www.vps.co.za - He's a friend of mine. We use VPS.co.za for multiple things around Platform45. :)
