JOELAN will be the name of my boat. JO for my wife Josée, EL for my daughter Elaine and AN for me.

As today, all bulkheads, the mast, the boom, the gaff, centreplate case are done.  All hull and deck stringers are cut, the scarf are made and the gluing completed tomorrow. I will have to put all these pieces on the ceiling according to the order they will be assembled on the hull.

Next step is to glue all hull panels and store these long pieces on the ceiling according to the order they will be assembled on the hull.

Andre, it is OK to join the hull panels into full length panels before fitting but doing this for the bottom panels will make them more difficult to fit. There is a lot of twist to this wide panel, particularly forward of the mast bulkhead. I recommend that you keep the forward sheets separate and rather glue those scarphs in place on the hull. The sheets aft of the mast can be glued together before fitting the panels. The reason is that it takes a lot more effort to twist big panels than small ones, particularly if they are wide like the bottom panel.

Nice work so far Andre. I fitted my planks in one piece except for the wide garboard plank. This first plank has a lot of twist forward and is easier to manipulate in a shorter piece. I found out the hard way! Depending on which plywood you are using [I used Occume] even with the kerfs cut on the underside as per the plans,I found that I still needed to steam the last 2-3 feet to get it to fit. If you have a look at the photos on my website www.stainlessboatworks.com.au  you will see a picture of this.Leaning next to the bench on the left you will see where the first plank broke. I then hired a wallpaper steamer and it took about 30 mins to work the plank down to the stem. Once dry the next day the planks held their shape as you can see in the next photo. Ron

Nice...
its great to see a quality set of pictures of processes that I will be attempting soon.

I have a question since it looks like you are using a kit (ill be cnc cutting mine from same kit files).  I am curious about the stringers that enter the slots on the transom doublers, since it is curved and slanted. What was your experience in the fit there?

Thanks!

Hello Jeremy,
During the last 10 years, I did several cabinetmaking lessons knowing that when I retired I would build wooden boats. I wanted to know about the safe use of tools considering that I would work alone. I realized several pieces of furniture that require to make tenon and mortise joints. See my achievements via this link:

To attach the stringers to the transom and bow it is important to have good sharp wood chisels.

To bend the first 2 stringers, I did not need to use steam but here is a link from the site of Hans From The Netherlands on the technique he used to bend the stringers.

Good luck.

Tomorrow, I install the tablets between stations 4 and 5 and then, I place the 2 side top panels. I also started the keel. She will be ash,
