Hi All
I’m after some advice on the centreplate axle. My initial thought was to just use a 20mm stainless steel stud threaded at either end but I was wondering if something else is needed to reduce ware on the centreplate and on the case.  One thought was hollow stainless tube and a narrower diameter stainless stud fitting inside it.
Any thoughts
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
You don't really have to worry where the stainless steel pin goes through the centreplate but the hole in the case would be better with some kind if bush to take the load off of the plywood. I built a fibreglass bush into mine when building the centrecase, but you can still do something now. You could have a bronze or fibreglass  bush made to fit the pin that you could glue in, [I wouldn't use Stainless steel on stainless steel] or drill an oversized hole where the pivot pin goes through the case and fill it with thickened epoxy and then re drill for the pin. Make sure you have at least 3mm of epoxy surrounding the pin. You would need to push a piece of snug fitting wood covered in packaging tape up into the case to cover the hole from inside to stop the epoxy from running in, not too difficult and you won't need to find someone to do the machining for you.
I guess  I had better finish the centreboard winch for you , you will be needing it soon!

Thanks Ron. I think I will go with the resin option.
You’re right. It would have been easier to do while building the centreplate case.

Hi Ron
What diameter pin did you end up using? I have a 22mm hole machined into the centreplate for the pivot pin. After I coat and prime and paint it it appropriately it will be less than that.  I was thinking a 20mm double end threaded bolt but I am having trouble finding anything of that diameter in 316.
