Hello , I am 47 and have been dreaming of building my own sailboat for years.   I have looked at many designs, and have a particular love of the older traditional working rigs. The look of the CH21 has definitely caught my eye. The various builders boats on the internet in pics and videos are beautiful and look very fun!  My wife loves the look of the inside and out as well, and I have her approval on my Choice, but she specified we have to go with the bilge keel version for more room in the cabin.  I am currently refinishing an old 14' sailboat to learn on, and will have to save for several weeks to buy the plans for the CH21 since I got laid off due to the COVID pandemic.  We would love to get a look at one in person if there are any builders in the Seattle area?

Regards,

Hi Will,
There is a boat not very far from you on the Colombia river, and I know the owner is planning a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island this year.
His is a centreboard boat and he bought the boat with a modified cabin and has extensively re finished her and she is a lovely boat now.
The owner is a group member, but if he does not see this post I can put you in touch with him.
You won't be sorry if you decide to build a Cape Henry, fantastic boats, and it would be interesting to see a bilge keel version being built. The centreboard does not bother us at all but the bilge keel version would feel much more spacious down below.
Regards
Ron

Ron,

Thanks for the reply, I would absolutely love to get in touch with the member down on the Columbia, I read about his rebuild a couple nights ago but can't find the page again.  I have made the drive from here to his neck of the woods on many occasions and if need be we would happily take a trip down to meet him and his boat :) .  Speaking of boats, Sealion is a beautiful example of this great boat!  I have enjoyed pictures on Dudley's page and videos on youtube , and the videos show the Cape Henry to be very fun and capable !  What would you say is the hardest part of the build?

Do you know how to add labels to posts?  such as "Introductions", "hull", etc ?  I see them on everyone's posts but haven't figured them out yet.

Will,
I have forwarded an email from Michael to you. I don't know why it didn't end up here.
Google have changed the settings for the group recently and we have not quite worked them out yet. Another member is adding labels as the conversations are posted at this stage.
I think the hardest part of the build for most builders is fitting the garboard planks. There is a lot if twist in the forward section of the plank, but when you get to that stage we can help you with how we have done it. For me the hardest part was convincing my partner to let me build another boat!
I have attached an article I did for Small Craft Advisor magazine you might like to have a look at.
