My name is Jeremy Standlee and I live in central Alabama. I am finishing up a cedar strip canoe and thought I might tackle something a bit more challenging as my next project. I plan to start the build this spring. Right now I am soaking up as much info as I can about these beautiful boats. Thank you Dudley for the design and for creating this group. I am sure it will be an invaluable resource.

Welcome, Jeremy. Most of the members here have built their own boats, so there is a good knowledge base available. I don't get into the forum as often as I would like but will come in if I see that my advice is needed.

Hello Jeremy.

Before I started building my Cape Henry I followed the reports in "Water Craft" magazine published by Pete Greenfield in the UK. [T: +44(0)1326 221424] which records building progress made by Peter Goad between 2004 and 2008. The issues you need are:- Nos. 47, 48, 50, 54, 56, 60, 64, 67, 71, 80 (and one other which reports on sailing trials, but I don't know the issue number). I think copies of these back issues are still available from the publisher (either hardcopy or in digital form).Peter Goad seemed to have a lot of experience of small cruising yachts and I took inspiration from some of the internal design changes he incorporated - having, like you, only built various canoes/kayaks previously. One word of warning - it always seems to take much longer and cost much more than the novice/first time builder first expects, as I am finding out ...!

Good luck with your project

Tony,
Thank you for your reply. I had come across those issues in my research. Unfortunately, several of the issues say sold out and I don't see an electronic version.  I think I am going to contact them just to make sure.
Everything I do seems to take longer :)
Thank you!
Jeremy

I’ve spoken to the Watercraft editor. He sent me a few of the articles as PDF’s - they are for some reason already in the public domain and he was ok with sharing them with me. He told me that all of the articles are archived digitally and are accessible if you subscribe to the digital version of their publication.

I haven’t been successful in getting the link on their web page for their digital subscription to work for me from my US location. It works for him from his UK location. If you’re interested and able to successfully subscribe to their digital magazine and archives, i’d be interested in how you did it

Cy,
I was sent the link their digital subscription, and I was able to subscribe here in the US without issue.

Let me know if it works for you or not.

edit:    apparently the only only goes back to 2010. So I have emailed them to see If they can send me the relevant issues with the CH21...
