Hi All,
As you know, the MA senate is working on their energy bill. The House energy bill cuts Mass Save and has other concerning components. We need the state to put people over energy profits, reform and Save Mass Save, and expand clean and affordable energy projects while protecting forests.
The House bill also includes a repeal of the MA law that provides responsible preconditions and voter approval before any new nuclear reactor construction or operation. It is not an anti-nuclear act. This 1982 law puts up safeguards for public and environmental protection like emergency plans, emission standards and a repository for the waste. Those preconditions still haven't been met 45 years later!
Governor Healey wants the law repealed as Trump pours our taxmonies into nuclear power while he slashes federal oversight, replaces public health regulations with measures that increase "allowable" radiation exposure, and removes environmental impact statements for new sites. Our voice is being erased.
Chapter 503 is a very responsible law and we need to keep it on the books. [It's only a few pages long and attached for your review.]
As partners with Mass Power Forward coalition, we are setting up a lobby day with Senator Fernandes and Senator Cyr for the week of May 24. This will most likely be a zoom meeting and we invite you to join us in advocating for clean, green, renewable, and affordable energy and to Save Mass Save/stop the repeal of Chapter 503.
Here is the MPF action guide with more info. There will be a leader for the group to coordinate the conversation.
Please let me know if you might be available to join in the effort. We don't have a scheduled date/time yet but we can get you on the list of potential constituent supports.
Thank you so much-Let's keep up the fight to protect our communities and environment!
peace, Diane
