Dear all,
The House Ways and Means is still considering a new version of H.4744, the energy bill which includes Sec. 80 that repeals the 1982 state law that prohibits new nuclear reactors without voter approval. We need to keep up the pressure to prevent our democratic right-as is the-law to make the determination for our energy future.
Please call the W&M Committee today at 617.722.2990 and leave a message to remove Sec. 80 of H.4744 and keep the law that gives the voters the right to make the decision on nuclear power in Massachusetts. A receptionist is keeping a tally of calls.
Please share.

Thank you! Diane

Hi Diane.
As you know, on Fridays, many of the reps and senators are in their districts,
and not at the State House. I did travel to the State House yesterday (Friday),
to register my strong opposition to H4744 section 80, in person.

The W&M committee members, along with staff members, were locked up tight
in conference on Friday, working on their bill. Apparently, they'll be reporting out
within the next two weeks; Monday Feb. 23 at the latest, according to Shel's sources.

I did offer to help W&M their "decision-making".  Ha.  Not sure if I'll get a call back.
Thanks. ~Paul
Maybe it's time to start contacting Senate W&M (??) If the House votes, won't the
Senate W&M want to have a say in any amendments to the bill? Both House and
Senate must agree, right?
And does anyone know where House Speaker Mariano stands?

Done. Thanks for alerting us to this house bill and the need to 'demand' the 1982 bill that requires voter approval for a nuclear reactor facility to be built stays in effect.  Lets hope sanity prevails.
