Join us on Wednesday, November 12 at the Massachusetts State House
Dr. Edwin Lyman, Nuclear Safety Director for the Union of Concerned Scientists, discusses the risks of small modular nuclear reactors and addresses critical misconceptions of SMRs as a climate crisis solution.  Your questions and perspectives are essential as we work together to shape a sustainable and safe energy future.

Why is this a timely issue in Massachusetts?

The proposed state energy bill, H.4144, raises significant concerns about democratic processes and energy policy.

The bill states: "This Act would repeal a 1982 law that mandates that any new nuclear facility receive approval through a statewide ballot initiative, eliminating a major barrier to the consideration of new small modular reactors that could improve reliability, stabilize prices, and decarbonize the region’s power grid."

By repealing a state law that requires voter approval for new construction and operation of nuclear reactors AND specifically advocating for SMRs without full vetting, we risk undermining the principles of transparency and public involvement.

Let's have an open discussion and make informed decisions together.

Please share widely.
