Subject: Private Pilot Ground School
Hi All,
It looks like we have about 8 cadets who are interested in taking the ground school as an Aerospace Special Interest Group topic.
As we are now approaching the Holiday Season, there will no doubtably be numerous distractions that will conflict with this program running as smoothly as I'd like it to. So I am proposing that we commence the ground school beginning in January. I will publish a preliminary schedule shortly.
Here's how it works:
Attached is a pdf of the proposed syllabus. If you don't have the Adobe Reader installed on your computer to print the pdf, you can get it here: www.adobe.com.
Parents:
Please print the attached pdf file and signify your approval by signing it in order to allow your cadet to attend this event. Have your cadet bring it to the next Squadron meeting.
Cadets:
I must have your signed form in my hands before you will be allowed to attend the school.
I'm making the purchase of the required materials optional. We will work with slidesets andf handouts in order to keep the cost down. But I highly recommend as a minimum purchasing the Gleim book mentioned in the pdf and a pilot logbook. The Gleim book has all of the test questions that may be on the FAA knowledge test. So, once the cadet completes the ground school and can show me that s/he has studied the Gleim to my satisfaction, I will sign his or her logbook allowing him/her to take the exam. S/He will also be issued a certificate of completion.
If s/he is planning to take the Private Pilot Knowledge Test, the cost will be $150.00. AOPA members are eliglible for a $10 discount off this fee. This test is administered by an FAA Certified Testing Center. I have used the East Coast Aero Club at Hanscom Field. They are professional and courteous. The test results are valid for 24 months. The cadet must take his checkride by the expiration of the 24 month period.
Any questions, please respond to this email.
Regards,
