ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational
objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain
uncommon results. ~ Andrew Carnegie

CANYON LAKE BUSINESS NETWORK January's Business Network was a great
success, and, with business unfinished, will continue on the same
topic on February 22, 2007 from 6:00 - 7:00PM. It will be held at
Ed's Old Windmill Restaurant. Bring $2 for a neat snack and be ready
to roll your sleeves up! January's topic was "Building A Success
Story Through Effective Business Marketing." The purpose of this
meeting was to get heads together and come up with a united plan on
effective and affordable advertising plan options. Jeanie Richie
spoke on enthusiastic marketing and effective exposure and doing
something unique and different than everyone else. Make yourself
stand out! Local newspaper representatives attended who shared their
marketing and advertising expertise, helping attendees come up with a
tentative plan for group advertising. If you have any questions about
the meeting, contact B. J. Thomas at 210-602-7446. TO R.S.V.P.

Last weekend Jaynellen Ladd, Executive Director, was in Houston,
Texas, at the Reliant Center, host to the 21st Annual Texas Home &
Garden Show, February 9, 10, 11. The Texas Home & Garden Show
featured the 13th Annual Vacation, Leisure & Outdoor Show, all in one
location! Jaynellen manned a Chamber Booth that was one of the most
popular in the immediate area, perhaps because folks were drawn to the
huge banner about the Gorge, which is coming soon! Thousands attended
the show. Jaynellen will be preparing to attend the 28th Annual
Dallas Home & Garden Show at Market Hall March 2, 3 and 4th, also
featuring Vacation, Leisure & Outdoor Show. For information about
these shows or booth partnership at future shows, please contact
Jaynellen Ladd at 964-2223. Some of the comments from visitors: Do
you all have land for sale? How far is it from Houston? Where is
this?? We're looking for a vacation spot! Do you have B&B's, camping
and fishing? Is this in TEXAS? We went out there years ago and
couldn't find the lake! I got certified in scuba diving there! I am
a builder; do you have medical clinics? We have property in Mystic
Shores/Summitt/Canyon Lake Hills/ Ensenada Shores/Skyline Drive. We
have friends and family that live there. Do you have scuba diving
there? We were there 10/20/30 years ago! Don't you all have new
river rules? We come out the weekend before July 4th every year! We
are members of the Jet Ski Club from Houston that visit every year.
Wow! The Gorge is something! How did that happen? Jaynellen steered
folks to the website, to the Visitor's link and Relocation link, along
with handing out the Visitor Pocket Guide and Chamber Brochure.

Jim Files, the guide in JR's Guide Service, is traveling to Fort Worth
the end of next week to a huge Cabella's Events Days. Jim provides
the Chamber with a courtesy Fishing Report on a weekly basis. Stop by
and pick one up before you head out to the lake for fishing! Jim will
be sharing our 2006 Visitors Guide and the Chamber Brochure & Pocket
Guide with visitors! Speaking of the Visitors Guide, the 2007 Canyon
Lake & Guadalupe River Visitor and Relocation Guides have gone off for
printing! We expect them within the next ten days!

It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who
gets the credit. ~ Unknown

Something NEW to watch for: the Chamber has a MASCOT! More
information will come soon! Contact the Chamber if you are interested
in participating in the mascot program! A few lucky people will be
selected to help with this fantastically fun promotion! Bonnie or
Jaynellen at 964-2223.

Some regard private enterprise as if it were a predatory tiger to be
shot. Others look upon it as a cow that they can milk. Only a handful
see it for what it really is - the strong horse that pulls the whole
cart. ~ Winston Churchill

CANYON LAKE ACE HARDWARE is excited to announce they are the first and
only participants in Texas in a nationwide campaign to help raise
garden fresh foods for local food banks. Plant a Row for the Hungry
is a program in which YOU can be involved and contribute. Read
details below:

Plant a Row for the Hungry Program

Canyon Lake Ace Garden Center Manager David Jacobson invites you to an
informational meeting at the Tye Preston Memorial Library in Sattler.
The dates are Wednesday, February 21st from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. or
Monday, February 26th from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. ACE is spearheading a
unique food drive for the local food banks called "Plant a Row for the
Hungry." ACE will be providing free tomatoes plants starting in March
for this program. This is a nation-wide effort by the Garden Writers
Association. These tomatoes will be grown by local folks and then
donated back to the local food banks to provide home-grown tomatoes to
those less fortunate than us. Think of all the seniors around the lake
who can't grow or afford fresh tomatoes anymore. What a nutritious
healthy way to give back within our community. If you're a gardener
wanting to help share the joy of home-grown tomatoes or a business
that would like to support this wonderful program please plan to
attend. If you can't attend but would like to help, stop by and talk
with David, give him a call at 964-2797 or drop him an email at
da...@canyonlakeace.com . There are 45 communities throughout the U.S.
involved and more than 5 million pounds of produce has been donated so
far. This is the only one in the state of Texas presently. So come on
out and show that Canyon Lake friendly spirit and Plant a Row or show
your support.
