~ PRESS RELEASE ~

Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce

2007 Survey Results Report

The Economic Development Committee of the Canyon Lake Chamber of
Commerce procured advice from the Texas Economic Development Council
and PEC to see how to kick-start development programs for the
committee. The committee developed a community survey for the purpose
of gauging opinions on what types of businesses we do not have and to
develop a program of work.

The survey was conducted from mid February through March 31, 2007.
2,000 surveys were printed and distributed by committee members and
chamber staff to churches, restaurants, supermarkets, banks and
retailers. Articles in the Canyon Lake Times Guardian, on the
Chamber's website and membership e-mails gave information on the
survey. Just less than 200 surveys were completed and submitted.
The survey posed only five questions with space for personal
comments. Questions included were:

What kind of businesses do you think we need to attract to the Canyon
Lake Area?

Choices were: Medical Clinics/Pharmacies, Supermarkets, Restaurants/
Retail, Hotels/Lodging, Automatic Car Wash, Apartments/Condominiums,
and Indoor Entertainment/Recreation.

The majority of the participants chose all of the above, with almost
all including additional comments on the need for this business
community to attract a large supermarket and whole foods style
supermarkets, franchise fast food restaurants, hospital or a doctor's
plaza with emergency services, pharmacies, quality dining venues, auto
parts stores, movie theatres, bowling and more entertainment for kids.

Would you do business with them and shop locally?

Approximately 90% said yes and those who didn't commented they would
if the prices remained competitive.

What would be the best location for these businesses?

The majority suggested a centralized place for all Canyon Lake
residents to reach. Most suggested Hwy 306 and close to Sattler and
Startzville.

Although the Chamber neither supports nor is against incorporation of
any community, we also wanted to gauge the interest of residents who
would like to attend an informational meeting and to give them an
opportunity to ask questions to a qualified professional concerning
incorporation.

Would you attend/participate in an information meeting on "The Pros &
Cons of Incorporating?"

One of every four surveys filled showed interest in attending such a
meeting.

What day of the week and time of day can you attend?

Most chose weekday evenings.

Additional comments included the need for medical facilities that are
centralized for Canyon Lake, an HEB, more fast foods like chicken or
pizza places, activities for teenagers. Several mentions of how
residents would like to see local retail and restaurants stay open
later. Some mentioned that we should keep the area as it is, having
moved here because of how it is.

The Chamber Board is working to prioritize what is important to our
citizens and members and the Economic Development Committee is putting
together a three subcommittee model to work on Business Development,
Business Attraction and Tourism Attraction. Detailed information will
be available for serious prospective businesses through our Executive
Director Jaynellen Ladd at the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce
office.

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Board and Economic Development
Committee would like to thank all the survey participants for their
expressions and time contribution.

More community surveys are planned by the Chamber in the near future
that will have a more extensive distribution and collection process.

The Chamber's July Business After-Hours Mixer July's Mixer contributes
to the Serve & Protect Program and this year's recipients are the
Constables from Districts 1 & 4, Shane Rapp & Ben Scroggin. The
Constables are pondering their highest needs. Defibrillators and
enhanced radar devices top the list. These two fine gentlemen patrol
Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River areas for our community. Each
year Cathy Wingert of Wingert Insurance Agency challenges all other
insurance companies to meet or exceed her contribution, so watch for
upcoming details about that! Last year the Sheriff's Office &
Officers received over $4,900 from the Serve & Protect Program that
purchased digital cameras for each patrol car, eliminating the sharing
of a few cameras among them all. That contribution was greatly
appreciated! Please keep this program in mind as July approaches.

The Chamber has a MASCOT! And, there's something's fishy about all
this! Did you see it yet? KEEP YOUR EYES OUT! Do you want to help?

Release refers to the amount of water being released from Canyon Lake
Reservoir into the Lower Guadalupe River in CFS (Cubic Feet per
Second). The Upper Guadalupe River is NOT affected by Canyon Lake.
The Upper River is affected by rainfall only.

Please Note: To confirm river flow downstream from the Dam, check with
our local outfitters.

WATER STRATEGIES TASK FORCE is a committee that has been around since
1993 consisting of those agencies and stake holders that have the
expertise and/or the authority to implement and communicate consensus
based information/talking points/media advisories about the lake
levels and river flow. This task force is chaired by the County
Judge. Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is represented here by
Jaynellen Ladd, Executive Director. After meeting today, a summer
plan was put in place regarding lake levels and river flow. Another
meeting is schedule for June, re-evaluating the summer plan. Watch
here for weekly updates. Water release during two holiday periods
(Memorial Weekend and July 4th - June 29 - July 8) will be 250 - 300
cfs, for tourists visiting the area. This Task Force also requested a
similar flow for the outfitters busiest season, which is July 15 -
August 15. This plan for controlled river flow releases are based on
weather conditions.

The Water Strategies Task Force committee is developing a press
release kicking off the start to a fantastic summer before Memorial
Weekend. We are looking for a few people who would be interested in
being an area representative to talk about and relay information
directly to the media in an impartial and positive manner. A free
training class about presenting to the media is being held next
Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30 AM. Ideally, it would be great to have two
representatives from the lake area and two from the river area.
Please call Jaynellen Ladd for more information at 830.964.2223.

US COAST GUARD AUXILIARY FLOTILLA 8CR 7-04 will be participating in
the community by informing boaters about boating safety. Be at Cranes
Mill Marina's Boat Ramp #9 on May 28th between 10am and 4pm to receive
a Complimentary Vessel Safety Check. Lower insurance rates with an
approved sticker! Takes about 15 minutes! The US Coast Guard
Auxiliary has been visiting HEB's, Academy's, other area lakes,
encouraging kids fishing and water safety. For more information
contact Frank Dannenberg, Public Affairs Coordinator & Public
Education at 210.723.1444. National Safe Boating Week is May 19th -
25th.

The CANYON LAKE ART GUILD recently awarded a $750 Scholarship to
Corbin Taylor Spring, a graduate of Smithson Valley High School.
Corbin will attend UT at San Antonio to study Art or Graphic Art.
Congratulations, Corbin!
