Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls
and looks like work. ~ Thomas Edison

THANK YOU Pedernales Electric! Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce was
generously presented with a $1,000.00 check from PEC honoring our
Chamber: "In grateful recognition of your service in our community and
for lighting the way for members throughout our territory." "PEC's
Light The Way program recognizes and supports the men and women who
man the fire departments and emergency medical services, staff the
libraries and community centers, and lead the chambers of commerce
throughout our service area. Thank you for your contributions to the
quality of life in your communities."

CANYON LAKE BUSINESS NETWORK January's Business Network was a
collaborated success, and, with business unfinished, will continue on
the same topic on Thursday, February 22, 2007 from 6:00 - 7:00PM. It
will be held at Ed's Old Windmill Restaurant. Bring $2 for a neat
snack and be ready to roll your sleeves up! January's topic was
"Building A Success Story Through Effective Business Marketing." The
purpose of this meeting was to get heads together and come up with a
united plan on effective and affordable advertising plan options.
Jeanie Richie spoke on enthusiastic marketing and effective exposure
and doing something unique and different than everyone else. Make
yourself stand out! Local newspaper representatives attended who
shared their marketing and advertising expertise, helping attendees
come up with a tentative plan for group advertising. If you have any
questions about the meeting, contact B. J. Thomas at 210-602-7446. TO
R.S.V.P. contact the Chamber at 964-2223. The Business Network is for
the entire community, so take advantage of free information!

WINTER
TEXANS

CANYON LAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE hosted the 2007 Winter Texan Reception
February 8, 2007. Crowds of around 300 flowed into CRRC's large
welcoming interior full of 'Welcome Bags', Business Information
Tables, Restaurants, and met with a Canyon Lake Friendly bunch of
folks that put on an event to remember. Thank you to all who helped
with this event! Click here to read more.... Omitted (sorry!):
Volunteers & Desserts: Pam Welch, Maria Braddick, Bridget McDougall.

Jaynellen Ladd, Executive Director, manned a Chamber booth in Houston,
Texas, at the Reliant Center, host to the 21st Annual Texas Home &
Garden Show, February 9, 10, 11. The Texas Home & Garden Show
featured the 13th Annual Vacation, Leisure & Outdoor Show, all in one
location! It seems the Chamber Booth was one of the most popular in
the immediate area, perhaps because folks were drawn to the huge
banner about the Gorge, which is coming soon! Thousands attended the
show. Jaynellen is preparing to attend the 28th Annual Dallas Home &
Garden Show at Market Hall March 2, 3 and 4th, also featuring
Vacation, Leisure & Outdoor Show. For information about these shows
or booth partnership at future shows, please contact Jaynellen Ladd at
964-2223. Some of the comments from visitors: Do you all have land
for sale? How far is it from Houston? Where is this?? We're looking
for a vacation spot! Do you have B&B's, camping and fishing? Is this
in TEXAS? We went out there years ago and couldn't find the lake! I
got certified in scuba diving there! I am a builder; do you have
medical clinics? We have property in Mystic Shores/Summitt/Canyon Lake
Hills/ Ensenada Shores/Skyline Drive. We have friends and family that
live there. Do you have scuba diving there? We were there 10/20/30
years ago! Don't you all have new river rules? We come out the
weekend before July 4th every year! We are members of the Jet Ski
Club from Houston that visit every year. Wow! The Gorge is something!
How did that happen? Jaynellen steered folks to the website, to the
Visitor's link and Relocation link, along with handing out the Visitor
Pocket Guide and Chamber Brochure in response.

KCWM 1460 AM Radio's DJ, Roy Holley, who is also partner to Rob
Carter, of Bobcat Musical, has offered free airtime to Jaynellen Ladd,
Executive Director, to promote the Canyon Lake & Guadalupe River
areas! Roy offers a half-hour show, once monthly. KCWM 1460 AM airs
from Hondo, Texas and reaches Bandera and Blanco, for example. The
Chamber will be promoting area events, attractions, and whatever our
members let us know about! Listen to the LIVE Broadcasts at 12:30 PM
March 8, April 12, May 10. For more information, contact the Chamber.

Something NEW to watch for: the Chamber MASCOT! Sound a little
fishy? Inquire at the Chamber. More information will come soon!
Contact the Chamber if you are interested in participating in the
mascot program! A few lucky people will be selected to help with this
fantastically fun & fishy promotion! Bonnie or Jaynellen at 964-2223.

Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is in full-swing of the 9th Annual BBQ
Cook-off preparations! We would love you to consider helping as a
volunteer at our largest fund-raising event of the year! If you are
interested and available, please contact the Chamber BBQ Team at
964-2223 or 800.528.2104. We can't do it without you! Days: April
26, 27, 28, 29. Includes: Set up Day, Check-In Day, Busy Day, Clean-
Up Day. Cakes and pies are always needed! Thank you in advance!!

CANYON LAKE FIRE/EMS is letting the community know that sometimes it
is difficult to locate a residence in an emergency due to irregularly
marked addresses on homes and businesses. If you are interested in
aiding emergency personnel in locating your home/business, plus
supporting the firefighters by using a reflective sign, you can
purchase these blue and white reflective signs at any of the three
Canyon Lake Fire/EMS locations for $20. The cost of $20 includes the
sign, post and installation! Locations are Sattler Road, FM 2673 in
Startzville and FM 306 at Potters Creek. CL Fire/EMS would appreciate
your support by purchasing their sign, but if you don't, they would
still appreciate people putting up their own signs using reflective
numbers. In an emergency, every second counts.

U. S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS is seeking GATE ATTENDANTS! The Corps
has paid contract positions available for Comal Park and Canyon Park
for the 2007/2008 summer recreation seasons. An RV site with electric
and water connection is provided free of charge. If you are
interested in this position or have any questions, please contact
Ranger Brett Delk at 830.964.3341.
