New News! Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce announces a great deal for
its members, beginning in February 2007. We have reached our one year
anniversary from the first radio show which aired in February 2006.
The Board of Directors has voted to share the cost of "Looking at the
Lake" so we can offer the Sponsorship Spots at a reduced rate!
Beginning February 2007 the new rate for one show will depend on your
commitment. The options are One-Time for $175 or enroll in the 13-
week cycle, sign the contract, get three shows at $150 per show. This
is a great deal to our members and great for us to have this air time
to promote our area and area businesses and events! At this new,
reduced rate, the shows available won't last long, so if you are
interested in 8-minutes of dedicated air time as a sponsor, please
contact Jaynellen Ladd at 964-2223. We will have the capabilities to
accept credit cards, soon, too! Read on for more details!

BLOOD DRIVE Saturday February 10, 2007 at Canyon Lake Ace Hardware and
Super S Foods in Startzville
CANYON LAKE ACE HARDWARE is excited to announce they are the first and
only participants in Texas in a nationwide campaign to help raise
garden fresh foods for local food banks. Plant a Row for the Hungry
is a program in which YOU can be involved and contribute. Read
details below:
Plant a Row for the Hungry Program
Canyon Lake Ace Garden Center Manager David Jacobson invites you to an
informational meeting at the Tye Preston Memorial Library in Sattler.
The dates are Wednesday, February 21st from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. or
Monday, February 26th from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. ACE is spearheading a
unique food drive for the local food banks called "Plant a Row for the
Hungry." ACE will be providing free tomatoes plants starting in March
for this program. This is a nation-wide effort by the Garden Writers
Association. These tomatoes will be grown by local folks and then
donated back to the local food banks to provide home-grown tomatoes to
those less fortunate than us. Think of all the seniors around the lake
who can't grow or afford fresh tomatoes anymore. What a nutritious
healthy way to give back within our community. If you're a gardener
wanting to help share the joy of home-grown tomatoes or a business
that would like to support this wonderful program please plan to
attend. If you can't attend but would like to help, stop by and talk
with David, give him a call at 964-2797 or drop him an email at
da...@canyonlakeace.com . There are 45 communities throughout the U.S.
involved and more than 5 million pounds of produce has been donated so
far. This is the only one in the state of Texas presently. So come on
out and show that Canyon Lake friendly spirit and Plant a Row or show
your support.
Carrol Fuller, of DriveSafe of Texas, and this week's sponsor of
"Looking at the Lake", told me a nice little story that boasts of his
business. A gentleman who took his safe driving course told Mr.
Fuller that he enjoyed his class so much and got so much out of it
that he is going to send his children to take it! Doesn't that say
something nice about DriveSafe of Texas? For more information,
contact Carrol Fuller at 830.935.4037.

CASA of Central Texas, Inc. invites you to join the fight against
child abuse by becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Volunteers
are trained by CASA and then appointed by a District Judge to advocate
for children who have been removed from their home because of abuse or
neglect. A CASA volunteer serves as the eyes and ears of court, and
could very well be the only consistent person in a child's life during
the court process. Please help us in our mission to provide an
advocate for every abused child in our community. To make a difference
in the life of a child, please contact a CASA Volunteer Coordinator at
512-392-3578 or 830-626-CASA (2272).
Boat N Go/ U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and Texas Parks and Wildlife
project to place cedar trees in Canyon Lake that was held on Feb. 4,
last Sunday, was a huge success!
Several volunteers showed up to make this project happen. 100 cedar
trees were placed in 14 separate locations where they know it's a high
spanning area so after spawning the baby fish (fry) can hide and grow
to live longer and to which other fish are attracted. Volunteers cut
and gathered the trees, tied the cinder blocks to them and then the TX
Parks and Wildlife placed the cedar trees in the lake, the lake
biologist with TX Parks & Wildlife is Steve Magnelia out of San
Marcos. This group would like to thank:
*Harold "Coach" Sinclair -Trailer Usage
*Gary & Lance Damuth (Damuth Homes)-Donated a generous abundance of
Strapping & Concrete Blocks including the trailer as well as manpower
in cutting down and hauling trees
*Hank Moeller, Generous donation of manpower, property to take trees
from as well as a trailer
*Larry Jones & Family (Jellystone Park) A "family" of manpower with
plenty of chainsaws
*Bill Martin-plenty of manpower, a trailer and property to take trees
from
*Jason Nichols-Always there for every Boat N Go project-plenty of
manpower
*Cody Morris-manpower for lots of tree hauling & cutting
This will become an annual event on the lake; you can get the GPS
location at Boat N Go & TX Parks and Wildlife.
The next project is to fence off a small portion of lake and plant
some vegetation, native plants like weed & grasses. TX Parks &
Wildlife have had success on other lakes planting native plants. Then
they will watch over time to see if we should move forward on this
project. If so then we would start a pilot program and get community
support and involvement.
