Guadalupe River Flow Below Canyon Dam: Flow rate is at 2,164cfs with
plans to increase if possible, in accordance with downstream flooding
near Victoria, Texas.
Upper Guadalupe River: Reports from the Upper Guadalupe (West of
Canyon Lake) say today only experienced canoeing, rafting and kayaking

rainfall upriver, however, without additional rain, runoff is slowing,
the river will be receding to a flow compatible with tubing. For the
4th, outfitters expect the river to clear and lessen to a rate great
for tubing!
Canyon Lake: All Corps of Engineers Parks are OPEN; all Swim Beaches
are OPEN - use with caution; all campsites - OPEN; 97% of picnic sites

"Fireworks Over Canyon Lake"
The 4th of July is a great day for celebrating!
It's a good time for friends and family to gather and for us all to
remember what the 4th is all about - our country's independence! This
year is no different with the exception of the fireworks show, usually
held at Randolph AFB Rec Area on Canyon Lake.
This show will not be held due to a few reasons.
This information was previously reported in our article,
Chamber Chat, printed in the Canyon Lake Times Guardian,
and in the Chamber's weekly email.
First, with the 4th falling mid-week, on Wednesday, Randolph staff
felt it would be strategically difficult for military and their
families to attend a 10pm show and be at work early the following
Thursday morning. This show is motivated towards celebrating and
honoring the military. Secondly, during this time of war and military
budget cuts and spending caps, the decision was made to pass on this
year's fireworks show expenditures, running approximately $18,000-
$20,000. And, lastly, Randolph AFB Rec Area will expect a 50%
contribution by our community to be able to hold shows in the future.
In case you don't remember, the Chamber pulled the community together
resulting in over $6,000 being contributed to the 2006 Show. So, be
ready for next year early! Get out and campaign to bring in funds for
2008. The Chamber has begun a list of names and contact numbers of
those interested parties who wish to participate. The April 2008
Business After-Hours Mixer is the Kick-Off to the Fireworks Over
Canyon Lake Campaign and we will be looking forward to your support.
We will be working towards contributing to the Randolph show, and the
decision to have the show will be made in 2008. The Canyon Lake
Chamber Visitor's Center received over 250 calls in the last week
inquiring about the fireworks show alone! Many disappointed folks are
residents of the area who enjoy the show alone or with friends and
many are folks who visit the lake each year just for the show! There
is plenty of lodging space available at Canyon Lake. The Corps of
Engineers has several great camping-only parks and several day-use
only parks, all on Canyon Lake, with one exception, and all are very
affordable or free. Three have unique hiking trails within them. The
VFW Post 8800 is hosting this year's Fourth of July Parade in
Startzville, starting at 11AM Wednesday. The Heritage Museum of the
Texas Hill Country offers a peek at some really old dinosaur tracks
and other interesting fossils. Canyon Falls RV Park houses its own
horse-riding opportunities - Happy Trails, all within their own 32-
acre park. Sattler Artisans' Alley has room to shop regardless of
what the weather is doing - all indoor multi-booth art, crafts, unique
gifts, furniture, etc.! Watercraft Rentals rents water crafts for
recreation while Boat-N-Go rents boats geared up for some great
fishing! Silver State Helicopters can work a deal on the helicopter
flight of your life! There is an abundance of live music in the area
beginning tonight and running through the weekend. See the EVENTS
below, so you won't miss a thing.
