Adding Rubrics to Assignments

According to the Canvas Instructor guide Rubrics can be added to an assignment.

When I'm in the Assignment editor I do not see an option to add a Rubric. 

Am I missing something?

I can see how this is a little confusing, as you have to Save the Assignment first. The Add Rubric option is then at the bottom of the Assignment.

Note that you can create your own rubric, but you can also find and reuse rubrics that you or your department has created.

Finally, let me encourage you to use learning outcomes in your rubric. It's a fast and easy way to measure students on the outcomes you've set forth for the class.

Thanks Jared.  I do see that now. The problem I'm having is that there does not seem to be the Add Rubric option on an assignment that uses an External Tool. (I'm using Noteflight). Do you happen to know if it is possible to attach a rubric to an assignment that uses an External Tool?

Yes, I definitely will be using the Outcomes in the rubric!

Unfortunately it's not currently possible to use Canvas's built-in rubrics with external (LTI-based) assignments, though I can definitely see the usefulness of this idea.

Thanks Jared. It turns out that there is a work around. If you first create an assignment that is not based on an external tool and add a rubric to that assignment you can later edit the assignment to include the external tool and the rubric will be available for grading.
