Initial Login Troubles

Hi!

I did the production install of canvas, got to the initial page for logging into canvas, the problem is, I dont know who I'm meant to log in as; I dont remember configuring any users for canvas :(
Help?

Did you run rake db:initial_setup? It should have prompted you to
create an admin account.

ooooh yeah I remember running that now. I've totally forgotten what I set the admin credentials to :S what do you think  i should do?

You can run script/console, and do:

p = Pseudonym.first
p.password = p.password_confirmation = 'somepassword'
p.save!
p.unique_id

That will change your password, and output your username.

I have the same problem. I have Canvas installed but the information I entered at rake is not working.

I tried to make this script but I am new to Ubuntu -- Ubuntu 12 LTS.

I copy and pasted your script below and chmod'd and placed in /var/canvas and got: 

root@ubuntu:/var/canvas# ./canscrip.sh

./canscrip.sh: line 1: p: command not found

./canscrip.sh: line 2: p.password: command not found

./canscrip.sh: line 3: p.save!: command not found

./canscrip.sh: line 4: p.unique_id: command not found

For the newbie can you please detail exactly how I use this script? I am stuck at login screen and the credentials I put in are not working.

Those commands are for the Rails script/console. First, go to your Canvas installation directory (sounds like /var/canvas), and run script/console. Then copy/paste the commands in.

Just an FYI... I think I found out the reason why I was having trouble on the Production Install instructions.

In the Database Population section of the Production Install instructions it states the command:

When the rake one it asks for an administrator email and password. At this point I was entering a password "password: hell0", and in the rake it was accepting the password. But in fact Canvas has password requirements for length. So the password I was entering was not being accepted.

Also when I tried to reset using the Ruby on Rails console/script -- it worked in resetting the password, except when I logged in I was non-administrator and could not perform any actions other than logging in.

So I did a clean install (3rd time is a charm) and used a longer password on the rake, with Uppercase/lowercase/length and numbers and followed the rest of the Production install instructions and the install worked fine.

Canvas looks very promising for my org. Still need to research capabilities of product but looks promising for our Staff Dev program. Easier and more attractive than Moodle as far as I can tell so far.

Question: If we install locally to our server, can we buy support from Instructure? Do yo have a referral regarding this question? Thanks.
