Ok, I am a nubie at Canvas. I have installed the system and it appears to be running with users logging in etc.

I have a teacher who is testing it for me an she is trying to load an image into a quiz. The file loads OK and it exists in the tmp directory structure. However in the quiz it shows as the broken link icon. The system is running as the www-data user and the files are owned by this user with rwx permissions.

Open to suggestions on what I have done wrong!!

Thanks in advance.

As an update, I get a permission error only when running firebug or IE. Can anyone tell me how the path to the image file is built? It references :
/courses/6/files/134/preview

Obviously this is a constructed path as it does not physically exist within the canvas directory tree.

Alternatively, can anyone tell me where I check the user that would be doing this lookup. I have checked the processes for Canvas and they are running as www-data. All the files in the tmp directory are owned by www-data.

The only other thing I have noticed is that the names of the files in the tmp directories are prepended by a number. I have tried removing this number from a test file, but it has made no difference to the access.

Thanks in desperation :(

I believe that I have resolved my issue. For anyone else that is having a similar issue, the fix was to delete the tmp/delayed_jobs.pid file and and the log/delayed_jobs.log file and reboot the server so that Canvas rebuilt these files.

It would appear that I had some sort of corruption in one of these that was stopping the delayed_jobs from executing. No errors were appearing the log file because delayed_jobs was not executing.
