updating/upgrading Canvas

I followed the Production Start guide at https://github.com/instructure/canvas-lms/wiki/Production-Start and we've been running for a few months without too many issues. 

I want to upgrade to the most recent release, but when I follow the guide at https://github.com/instructure/canvas-lms/wiki/Upgrading I run into problems.

Where should I be running those commands (where is my git repository if I followed the Production Start guide)?
