New Installation Does Not Send Email

Hello,

I installed the latest production branch from GitHub on Ubuntu 20.04 on a Digital Ocean droplet. Everything works well, except sending email. I have tried both SendInBlue and Gmail and none works.

Here is my outgoing_mail.yml:  

production:
  enable_starttls_auto: "true"
  address: "smtp.gmail.com"
  port: "587"
  tls: "true"
  user_name: "XX...@gmail.com"
  password: "XXXXX"
  authentication: "plain" # plain, login, or cram_md5
  domain: "XXXXX"
  outgoing_address: "XXXX"
  default_name: "Instructure Canvas"



I tried both 465 and 587. The result is the same.

There is no errors related to mail delivery in production.log or delayed_job.log.

I don't know if it is related, but "Use remote service for notification" is disabled. 

What am I missing? Any information will be appreciated! Thank you so much.

"Use remote service for notification" has to be disabled, so that's fine. I would not use Gmail as it requires additional authorization for external applications, but Sendinblue should have no issues, in fact we have some servers using it. Did you restart you delayed jobs after changing the configuration? 
/etc/init.d/canvas_init stop
/etc/init.d/canvas_init start

In a working environment with Sendinblue, the lines " enable_starttls_auto" and " tls" are not present at all. It has just the following:

production:
  address: "smtp-relay.sendinblue.com"
  port: "587"
  user_name: "a...@bbb.com"
  password: "therealpassword"

  authentication: "plain" # plain, login, or cram_md5
  domain: "bbb.com"
  outgoing_address: "em...@bbb.com"
  default_name: "Canvas Notifications"

Hi Guys,

I have completed the Canvas installation on my ubuntu 18.04 server, but after installation, the Canvas page is not loading properly.
 https://github.com/instructure/canvas-lms/wiki/Production-Start - using this link I have installed Canvas

Install Apache server properly and configure apache.conf file with your project path...

Yes, it is working now after switching to Sendinblue. But it takes a lot of time to get the email. Thank you so much, Nico.

(It looks like someone mixed up this thread with a different issue...)
So John what do you meain when you say it takes "a lot of time". A few minutes? Some hours? You can test it sending messages from the Inbox.
And also you can check in Sendinblue console if the mails take time to arrive, or if the delay is from Sendinblue.

I had this issue before. On Ubuntu, when we install passenger, it will be configured correctly. 

In Debian/Ubuntu, the libapache2-mod-passenger package should have put symlinks inside of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/ called passenger.conf and passenger.load

We don't need to do the followings:
LoadModule passenger_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_passenger.so
PassengerRoot /usr
PassengerRuby /usr/bin/ruby
If we do, we will get the error you are experiencing.

You need to check the error logs from /var/log/apache2/error.log

I can't see any logs in canvas and apache related to this error.
This option is available, but when I click the EC2 course the above error is getting.
