Setting up outgoing email in local canvas setup

Hi ,

I have setup canvas in my local desktop ( ubuntu 13.10 ) and I changed my outgoing smtp settings to my gmail settings when ever I added a new person to course it is adding mail information to the `messages` but it is not sending email . Is it possible to send email from local setup ?

Is the canvas job running? /etc/init.d/canvas_init start

When I try to run it , it says "bash: /etc/init.d/canvas_init: No such file or directory" . How can I add that file or service ?

Check out the "Automated Jobs" section of the install guide.

sudo ln -s /var/canvas/script/canvas_init /etc/init.d/canvas_init

Now canvas jobs are running and I have installed sendmail locally and I have updated my outgoing_mail.yml to 

development:

  delivery_method: "sendmail"

but still I'm unable to send mails from my local copy . Messages are added into queue but it is not sending the emails .

Issues has been fixed when I ran "script/delayed_job run"

The production install has you copy a canvas_init script to /etc/init.d

That file will start everything including delayed job when run.
