Dear Ivan,
I have recently purchased 15oz waterproofed canvas from eBay traders at much better prices than Tarps. It has usually come from a trader in Manchester. I found on test that the proofed cotton canvas failed on test after just over two days immersion and indeed witnessed a waterline. After drying and re-treating with Fabsil gold however the canvas was re-attached to  a test frame and re-immersed. It has lasted eight days without a drop spilled thus far and the test is ongoing. Fabsil gold is available online from the manufacturer Graingers. It is intended for boat awnings.
I trust that this is of some help.
Regards,
Malcolm Tierney
