hello friends,

Just ranking surgery specialty sites for next block. Any suggestions on things to rank highly/really avoid? SICU and ortho trauma are my top 2 right now, with vascular being the lowest.

SICU's great, neurosurg is pretty interesting and SUPER chill. Early mornings but you're out by noon every day. And you get to see some brains.

Also word on the street is that HUP thoracic is the absolute worst. There's a  fellow who hates med students and is really mean to them. That's just what I heard, not personally experienced.

Ortho trauma is cool but if you tell them you're interested in bones, theyll have you staying in the OR until 10 and giving presentations every Friday...just ask Kamil lol. I would recommend plastics (either general or hand) and neuro surg. Those are the two I did before general, and I got a lot of practice closing and helping out on some super interesting cases.

As for your general rotation, presby was pretty baller. Dr. Korus will expect a lot out of you, but you learn a lot and his assignments are fairly reasonable. The other surgeons (Harbison, Golden) are very fun to work with and will give you good exposure to all the bread and butter cases you have to read about for the shelf. Hours are 530am-6pm but on days when you have clinic, you get out at like 2 or 3.
