Special guest violinist Ann Christensen joins Cántico for May 22nd concert
We are excited to announce that Cántico: The Portland Chamber Singers will be joined for our May 22nd
concert by special guest violinist Ann Christensen. Her gift for an expressive,
powerful sound of extraordinary beauty has brought acclaim
from audiences and critics alike. She has appeared both
nationally and internationally as a recitalist, concerto
soloist and chamber musician. Following a national competitive search, Ms. Christensen
and pianist Lisa
Bergman were appointed
Artistic Ambassadors for the United States government
and concertized extensively throughout China, Nepal,
Korea, Mongolia, Taiwan and New Zealand. Her performances have also been heard via live and recorded
broadcasts in NPR's
Performance Today, and on KING
FM (Seattle), KBPX (Spokane) and KOPB and KBPS (Portland).
Passionate about teaching, Ms. Christensen has served on the faculty of Lewis & Clark College and has taught master classes at several
prestigious institutions in China,
Korea and New Zealand. Previous teaching positions include Associate Instructor of
Violin at Indiana University School of Music, and teaching
assistant at Oberlin Conservatory.
Ms. Christensen was awarded an Artist Diploma from the
Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, studying with
Kathleen Winkler and was the winner of the Louis and
Annette Kaufman Violin Prize. She also earned a Master of
Violin Performance degree from Indiana University where she
was a student of Miriam Fried.
Cántico is delighted to have Ms. Christensen join us for our concert "My Song in the Night" on Saturday, May 22nd at 8 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Portland for excerpts from the Fauré
Requiem and a special solo performance.
