Helloevery one so I paid $50 to upgrade my flight and here i am thinking its the flight to my destination and departure now u telling me they are charging $50 each flight I hot email that has my whole itinerary thats says I upgrade but now they want charge me another $50 to go from B position to A thats not right anyway to get money I guess.
Sorry I wasn't clear i was saying I paid $50 to upgrade from B boarding to A boarding on the flight to Orlando and now the flight back I thought I still be A boarding now I am B I thought the $50 covers both flights I don't understand now they want another $50 to upgrade boarding when it is $25 and $25 to upgrade both flights I am just confused. Lol
You can only buy upgraded boarding on the day of your flight, so it is not possible to buy it for your return home until the 24 hours prior to that flight. That would get you a boarding position between A1 and A15.
Upgraded boarding to the A1-15 positions is charged per flight segment and can only be purchased within 24 hours of departure. It sounds like you purchased that for your outbound flight and expected it to cover the outbound and return flights. That is not correct.
For people who do not abuse the preboard option I do recommend checking in normally as you would 24 hours prior to departure, then if you do not like the assigned boarding position, purchase the upgraded boarding. This is a better way to guarantee a good boarding position when compared to EarlyBird which is not primarily intended to improve boarding positions. This method also allows you to evaluate your free option and decide if you want to purchase an upgrade. The cost difference between EarlyBird and upgraded boarding is minimal on non-stop flights.
I used to be able to "change" my flight to the exact same flight online so I could get a lower fare and receive travel fund credit for the difference. Now it is not showing me the same flight as an option. I would have to choose a different flight. Anyone else having this issue? Any way around it?
I'm not able to reproduce what you describe through the standard flight change module on the SW website (the original flight shows on the screen as an option with the change-of-fare difference); however I have two upcoming active bookings that underwent a minor schedule modification last November in which Southwest marked as "Your Trip was Modified" which essentially "unlocked" the ability for me to (up to twice) change the flight date/time up to 14 days before or after the original booking with no difference in fare.
I found that when I try to change a flight through this module, I do not see the original flight as an option, nor can I rebook with a lower posted fare. However, I have the flexibility to change the dates/times and nearby alternative airports at no difference in fare. If that's your case, you can cancel this booking and use the flight credit toward rebooking it under the lower posted fare. Keep in mind, this "forfeits" your 14-day/time/airport change flexibility from the original booking.
Yes I think that must be it. These too were "modified" by SW. I don't understand why this would prevent us from taking advantage of the lower fares, but it's the only thing that makes sense. Thank you for responding!
I wish in the case of schedule changes they allow you to accept the change so you can manage your reservation like normal I have expressed my feedback to Southwest about this new way of dealing with schedule changes
so in november im going to georgia and i live in south west florida and i wanted to know whats the process from arriving to the airport to where do i check in and get my bags checked to and etc. i'm a little nervous - it's just and me and my sister and the last time we were on a plane we were under the age of 6. so any tips would be great!
Be sure you check in for your flight 24 hours before departure to get the best boarding position as southwest boards by groups ABC the earlier you check in the better your chance of being in the A or B group.
What do you mean by checking in 24 hrs before departure ? is that where i check in through the app or in person ? and thank you so much for your tips and directions lol. also would i need a passport if im traveling from FL to GA ?
Southwest has open seating so your boarding group A B or C will show up on your boarding pass when you check in and the position 1-60 will determine where you stand in line to board. Once on board you can pick any open seat (so if you check in early at the 24 hour mark you can most likely avoid the middle seat unless you like the middle seat)
So, the first thing to understand is that unlike other airlines where you typically choose your seats when you purchase your tickets (and in many cases pay additional fees to choose that seat), Southwest has no assigned seating.
So here is the caveat! Southwest boards in a very orderly fashion (unless you are flying from the Dominican Republic LOL...another story!) where the "A group" lines up on one side of the column (you will see the columns when you get to the gate so you will know what I mean) from 1-30 and the other side 30-60..so the A group will have the choice of the 1st 60 seats. The B groups lines up in the same fashion and will have the next choice of the remaining seats, again, sitting anywhere they would like..C group is last group to baord
There is a way to insure that you will get a "decent" choice of seats (typically high A group to mid B group) which is to pay for Early-Bird check in where Southwest will automatically check you in and you will be assigned your place in the boarding line based on when you purchased your Early Bird ticket.
The other option is to check yourself in EXACTLY 24 hours before your flight and see what place in the boarding line you are assigned. Depending on how full the flight is, you could still get a decent place in line for boarding or you could be assigned Group C and possibly have no way to sit with a travel companion...which sucks...
Finally, if you elect to check in 24 hours before and get a crappy place in the boarding line you can upgrade to the A group at the gate for a slightly higher price than Early Bird, but it is subject to availability..
My advice (especially if you are traveling with someone you want to sit with) is to pay the extra for Early Bird, take the stress out of check-in as SWA does it for you, print your tickets or download to your phone, get there early, take a carry on (unless you have to check luggage) and have a fun flight! Also, i would talk to the gate agent and let them know this is your first time flying and they will typically keep an eye out to make sure things go well!
Southwest (and the other guys too) will try to accomodate someone in what is informally known as the "flat tire rule" - however this depends on your mom arriving at the airport within an hour or two hours of the scheduled departure, or if she won't be arriving at the airport then she must contact Southwest right away.
She can calso call up to ten minutes before the scheduled departure to cancel or change the flight, and make pro-active re-booking but this would be at the current fare pricing as opposed to the flat tire rule which as far as I know would be an even exchange of tickets on the next open flight. (Even if it is the next morning.)
At the very least, a call to reservations explaining the problem and asking to be allowed to go out the next day would be in order. I know the airport staff can be accomdating, but I'm not sure about the phone people. Cancelling would have eliminated this option and would have caused you mom to pay the much higher (normally) same day walk up fare.

Southwest's systems don't allow anyone to have more than two boarding passes at any given time. So if you have a connecting flight you'll have to wait until you complete the outbound. (Or you can have a gate agent print them for you at your departure gate.)
I had a day trip recently to ATL and was able to check in, although I forget the details on the timing, and being A-list I wouldn't have cared if my return flight position wasn't good, I'd just board at A61.
I had the same question and problem. I had a flight from San Diego to Sacramento in the morning (6:25AM) had checked in 24 hours in advance no problem and received an A-37 boarding pass. I then attempted to check into my return flight which was for 5:30PM the same day and all that kept showing up was my morning flight and boarding pass. I called Southwest to be told it was a 15 minute wait so I agreed to a call back in the same amount of time. I then exited my screen and resubmitted the information - about 5 minutes after trying and attempting to call Southwest and low and behold I had a check in for the 5:30 PM flight, but now was a B-19 boarding pass of course because of the time that had passed. When the service representative called me back he said sometimes it never recognizes the second flight and it won't work until you complete your outbound flight. I asked if it would have been better to have a separate confirmation number and he agreed it would have been cleaner. Will keep that in mind if I ever have to do this again. Southwest should think about how to clean this up. This did NOT have a connecting flight by the way.
